I imagine @Taipan looking and sounding like Arfur Daley
In his mind he's thinking he's all Ray Winston, but in reality he more Grandad from Only Fools and Horses.

When I speak I don't hear any accent at all. However, when I listen to a recording of me speaking I have a distinct Lancashire accent, possibly modified slightly by living for most of my life in Southern Shandy drinking country.

‘Bout ye! Ah left Norn Iron when ah was 18, so ah did. Lived over here ever since, so ah have. Mrs W is from there too, so she is, and we both still talk funny, so we do. Our kids think we’re hilarious (std).

Can you turn it off?
Just been talking to an Irish family for 10 mins. Very nice but couldn't tell a word.
I can turn mine off and they could understand me.
But despite me saying a few times that I couldn't understand, they didn't soften it one bit.
I like it when Kevin Bridges does the posh English voice.
It's just common sense and polite to soften your accent if your audience doesn't understand you.
Hmmm ?

And I was the same when I first met you!
Not a flipping word at first.

Accents are mad things, in parts of Belfast, two areas a couple of hundred yards apart can have totally different accents.

Be careful with the letter 'aitch' pronunciation or you'll give the game away.

My wife’s grandmother was from deepest darkest Glasgow. When she spoke to us she had a gentle sweet Scottish lilt to her voice.
When she was on the phone to her sisters still in Glasgow we couldn’t understand a word she said.
And that’s after not living there for 40 years.

I worked with an Ulsterman who said the same and said his Mum could locate people to within few streets of where they lived by their local accents?!
