Tanked the carb bodies this morning, spotted a few places I missed during yesterdays sodafest. Gonna hit those bits with a spot blaster gun doodad... & also use it on the aforementioned floatbowls.

Tumbled the rusty rear brake lever pivot for a couple of hours, forgot to put a couple of springs in there, so they're in it now.

YAY!! Got the gastank open!! Just needed the right size pin punch to knock the roll pin out. Some of the gubbins is in the small ultrasonic, along with two rear brake mastercylinders. Other parts of the rear m/c's in the tumbler.
Lock is now apart after some percussive maintenance.

I think I could use what I drained from the tank as spar varnish. Tank is now sat in the Sun airing/drying out, already too hot to touch it (91deg today). That will be going to the local radiator shop to get boiled out. There's also a half-assed repair on the bottom/rear of the tank where someone attempted to fix a leak with fiberglass. They crack were the rear mount is attached to the tank (known issue). That will be getting removed & then fixed correctly with braze or TIG.. or TIG brazed...

Not only was the tank lock mechanism caked in dried snarge, but the filter & fuel tap were also full of wet snarge, nothing was able to drain out when I opened the tap. Ended up inverting the tank over a bucket.

and took some parts out of the tumbler...

The two parts of the fuel tap are in the ultrasonic now...

Santa/Postie showed up with peg mounts & pegs etc, these ones aren't all wollowed out like the originals. Well happy
Hardware is in the tumbler, mounts will go in the ultrasonic tomorrow for a quick clean up. Probably getting powdercoat instead of paint.

Ultrasonic turned the dry snarge in the fuel tap into clay.... Dug more out, will finished the job with the small soda gun tomorrow (not the soda cannon I bought last week for the carbs).

Emptied the tumbler...
Moved the gastank... yikes...

Not too worried... yet...

The inside is going to get pressure washed, then I'll remove the fiberglass bodge repair, braze/TIG the crack, then I'll fit blanking plates to the fuel tap hole & sender unit hole, then fill it with *something*

...which will be either vinegar, muriatic acid or evapo-rust.... & see what the results are...

Plan A was the local radiator shop to get it boiled out, but they stopped offering that service owing to environazi's... the fuckers.

Were you ex-RAF by chance? The only other person I know that uses the word 'snarge' is and claims its a word he picked up there.

Float bowls & fuel tap soda'd & now back in the small ultrasonic for a quick session.
Still no joy getting the Ping!FuckIt! out of the rear mastercylinder. May resort to glass beads in the small blaster to get the rust gone.

Managed to get the 2nd rear m/c apart after removing the Ping!FuckIt! in two pieces. M/c now in the small ultrasonic, other parts of the m/c & some foot peg mount parts in the tumbler. M/c will be getting some attention from the small soda blaster.

Gas tank got a quick hose out, now drying again. I think my curved gutter cleaning attachment for the pressure washer will allow me to reach all parts inside the tank (didn't get to that today, it's hotter than balls here)

First batch for powdercoating is about ready (grab rail from the 750, two sets of strakes, one for the 750, the other for the 1100). I think the footpeg mounts will be getting paint after beadblasting, kinda fancy the Steel-It stuff I used on the F350 rear axle & rear brake back-plates (at least for now).

Can you still get the innards for the fuel tap?

When I stripped the tap on the Puch Magnum I had to just buy a new tap because the rubber innards were absolute unobtanium.

Yup, except that buggered filter.

Removed the buggered fiberglass repair on the gastank. Decided that flame was the correct route... Tank is now sitting there venting steam/smoke... Probably should have taken a *before* pic...
Inside the sender unit hole:

Dropped off a 9pc pile of parts at the powdercoaters:

Kickstand
2 sets of strakes (one set of the 750, the other for the 1100)
2 GPz750 grab rails
Pair of footpeg mounts.

He's also going to blast that burn area on the bottom of the gastank so it's ready for TIG or brazing.
