Out for a stroll along the beach with the missus who had just done a 7 till 2pm shift at work while i cleared up after the family Christmas yesterday when we had all the kids and partners fiancees together.

Image

We had the mutt with us who we thought was dying just before xmas as he was in a bad way but today he was running about in the sand with a wagging tail. He managed to run away from Sam to try and catch up with me

Finally got a photo of both my future daughter in laws together who are both expecting their first in the New Year 3 weeks apart. Going to be a busy year ;)

I did that in 1982 & 83. Was cold 🥶
I went to Mallory at Easter and it snowed, it's a bit of a dismal dump.

Contemplating sending my Emma Premium mattress back under the 200 night guarantee.

I've given it almost three months.

Last night I kipped on the mattress we had three mattresses ago (which is now the spare bed at the inlaws) and had a much better nights sleep than in my own bed.

The Emma is crazy firm, it's like laying on scaffold planks.

There's a million reviews that say otherwise, so I'm not sure if it's just us

Yeah, I get a better night's sleep on a 20 y.o. mattress (only in occasional use) than on the one we purchased a year or so ago...

All the reviews say the 'premium' is softer than the standard.

I can only assume that if that's the case the standard one must have spikes in it or something.

Is it upside down? Some of these things are only meant to be used on one side IYSWIM.

Did the first First Tracks this morning. Freaking awesome! A mate came for the first time and now totally understands why I rave about it. Obviously my nephews first time. I bloody love it. Top of the mountain for sun rise without having to walk all the way up there :D :D

Waiting to go up in the lift -

Their website says the opposite, premium slightly firmer (6.5 Vs 5/10)

All Emma mattresses lie in the medium firmness range to ensure correct spinal alignment and support. On a scale from 1 (soft) to 10 (firm), the Emma Original is a 5 (medium) mattress.

Emma Premium is a 6.5 (medium firm)

Our Emma mattress is one of the best things I've ever bought. We got a normal one first, but it was too soft for us, so we gave that to our daughter. i then got the medium firm one and it is, or was, Heaven! Without a doubt the most comfortable nights sleep I've ever had. I'm a fidget arse and moving around on a coil sprung mattress would launch my wife, but we get none of that on the Emma.

Downside. The memory foam has amnesia. After a while it doesn't return to where it started, and you can feel a ridge between the pair of you. But even then i am still more comfortable on it than any other bed i use in hotels etc.

Have to say, I can't fault IKEA as far as mattresses go. We've got the firmest kind they have with the extra 'topper' bit which is sorta 25mm thick. The combination of the two strikes the perfect balance of "bony bits don't get poked" and "don't sink into a marshmallow" IMO.

Spectacularly cheaper than Emma, Tempur (sic) et al too.

My 2d. Have got a Tempur mattress.

Hate it.

Will be going back to traditional construction for the next one.

Aren't Ikea mattresses odd sized?

I took my sleeping inspiration from nature. Look at how seal and sea lions can relax on rocky beaches, all you need is the correct body shape.

Not a problem if you have an IKEA frame!

They do do "imperial" sizes now, I.e. king, double etc. , now too though.
