A long story short, met some Guardia Civil having a drink in a restaurant we were in. Got chatting through my (then young) Son talking to one of them. As we ordered our drinks to take through to our table we offered them a drink which they accepted. They said they stop in the campsite we were on as they knew the management and pop in from time to time. Sure enough they popped in afew days later and we saw them at the bar, so walked over to say hi. They got us a beer which we thanked them for and then they left. I said to my mate, they didn't pay for our drinks? He said i thought the same. No biggie, I'll get the bill. The Guardia Civil were Franco's henchmen, basically the Spanish version of the Gestapo. If there was torturing or murdering to be done, they did it. Why they were never disbanded or even renamed I have no idea. People say they're hated but there's more to it, most of which harks back to which side your family was on in the civil war.
