Oil lines , i thought these would be available to buy , some parts are steam fittings but the unions
and banjo bolts needed to be made.
I turned the union parts out of brass



Then started to silver solder them together



I made a jig to replicate the hole spacing on the engine and soldered them together with 1/8 copper pipe



Also made some pipe work using the steam fittings

Banjo bolts are turned and threaded



The hex was then formed on the mill



The bolts were drilled down the centre then cross drilled

Just a quick side note, when i made the spark plugs my Gf said she thought they would make
quirky ear rings . So while i was in the mood i made a couple of even smaller plugs and fitted
then to some ear fittings, because i'm good like that.

I've been away for a bit doing a number of different jobs so I've just been playing catch up. One of the jobs was to bend a bit of copper or brass tube - I used brass as I couldn't find the copper (although I found it a bit later) and flare the ends. Now metal is not really my thing, I can do bits and pieces but much prefer wood.

My problem is preventing the tube from flattening as I bent it - you clearly don't have this problem, do you have a brake pipe bender/flarer tool? I simply heated the tube and bent it around a pit of broom handle with a bit of thick copper wire inside to minimise the flattening. My first version, with 3 strands of copper wire inside is laying around somewhere - bent quite nicely but still with 3 strands of copper wire stuck inside.

What are they for? They're simply guides for the sail control sheets. An update and some pictures going on the boat shed thread later.

If you have to do it again try filling the pipe with fine sand instead, you won't have a problem getting that out.

Or tinman's solder. Mind you that makes it hard to bend.

You get it out by melting the solder out. I wonder whether you might be able to use candlewax to achieve something similar.

You can of course get brake pipe bending tools from machinemart etc.

It worked reasonably well with the thick copper wire, a bit of flattening but the line runs freely through it and no one will see it so it's job done as far as I'm concerned!

I'm 2000 miles away from the nearest machine mart. I could get one on line here but for two bits of pipe it wasn't worth the money, plus all of the kits I saw had tooling starting at thicker pipe than I've got. I wasn't sure how that would work so didn't bother. I didn't use sand either as getting hold of fine grain sand was also not a simple matter. I'm under house arrest and even when could go out, hunting around for a spoonful of fine sand was well down the list of priorities. But thank you for the ideas, I'll bear them in mind for the future!

The tube i used was the coiled 'microbore' type which is soft and bends easy.
Also i was only using 6mm pipe.
The copper 'work' hardens quickly so you need to re heat to red frequently. I used a piece of
copper wire like you for the tight bends .
I watched a film of a company making brass musical instruments and they filled the tube
with water then froze it before bending.

I am genuinely in awe of your skills superb hit of work. Need to stop now or I will be gushing very unmanly thing to do.

Time i made a stand , a mate gave me a chunk of alloy a while back , apparently it was used to secure
overhead cables and they inspect and replace them regularly . So i thought i might be able to make a
stand out of it.



So i attacked it with my angle grinder and a cutting disc first ,, alloy can be a right pig to cut.



Then spent an age on the mill wishing i had never started .



Couple of alloy rods and some engine mounts

I have now filled with oil and primed the pump. After turning the engine over with a drill i was happy
to see oil pumping through the oil lines . I did have a few small leaks but easily fixed.
So here are some pics of were i am at , need to make the dummy magnetos next and then come
up with an ignition system .

That looks absolutely fabulous. I take it you'll be making a coil ignition system or maybe a flywheel mag?
