I'm gutted The Jerk was 1979. :( One of Martin's finest works.

I will never see Withnail and I.

Beverly Hills Cop
Look past the hype and cultish bollocks. It's utterly hilarious and devastatingly poignant. If you watch it and don't like it I'll give you my house.

Beverly Hills Cop?

iirc it was offered Stallone, but he wanted to rewrite it to make it serious with $$$$ worth of action set pieces.

Oh right, you mean Withnail and I. I'll get in the back of the van.

I love it. It's one of my favourites. Each to their own I guess.

Repo Man or Straight to Hell - rock and roll weirdness

Hellraiser - low budget effects but striking film

Airplane or Naked Gun - throw away gags

The Firm (Gary Oldman) - tv movie but some decent hard man quotes

Strange how some films don't age well, and this is one of them. I used to love it, but watched it a few years back and it's cringe-worthy now.

Ditto Ferris Bueller - used to be my teenage role model. Watched it a few years back and he's just a lazy, smug bully.

And Grease, but that's 70's and out of scope for my scathing critiques that leave Hollywood shaking in its boots.

Ferris Buellers day off ( and any of the Brat Pack stuff too)

Back to the Future
BTTF is probably no. 1 for me. Watched it with a live orchestra performing the musical score at the Royal Festival Hall a couple of years ago.

Way too many to choose from but others that I make time to watch are:

Midnight Run
Major League
Wildcats
Hoosiers/Best Shot
Karate Kid

All my 80's top five have received one or more mentions - with the exception of...

Down By Law

which is a wonderful film.

Or have you noticed how Walter Peck (aka "Dickless"), the EPA guy who shut down the Ghostbusters was exactly right about them being dangerous and was just doing his job properly? ;)

I think history will show him to have been the victim of both bullying and victimisation for not having genitals. We should deplatform Ghostbusters.

I actually watched Rottweiler with my rottweiler and I swear he was laughing, his wee bunny tail was going non stop.
