Yesterday took Elvis to vets as not eating.
3 injections and consultation

Back today for follow up.
Shave tummy and ultrasound.
3 more injections and tablets to take home

Total cost, 55€

Whats up with him?

He wasn't eating. Did xray Friday and they said he'd 3 days to live and tmrw was the injection

2 huge tumours in his throat imparing eating and breathing

But we've been shoving anything down his throat that we can.

Old geezerhood pays off...

Sat in the pub tonight & end up in a conversation with some bloke who works of *black stuff* at a local air base... At one point he laments being involved in a project where an engineer/designer wallah had spec'd some aircraft hardware that was proving impossible to find... quotes MS/AN part #'s

Me: Have you tried "blah blah" co?
Him: Never heard of them?
Me: Google them..
Him: ok, found the company
Me: Punch in the the part #
Him: Holy crap they have them, I can get them here by Wednesday
Me: How long have you guys been looking for this hardware?
Him: A fucking year...

I had something similar only last week: our hot-tub was on the fritz (heater burnt out) and the engineer* who confirmed the diagnoses was apparantly having difficulty sourcing a replacement. I contacted the tub manufacturer who sell the spare parts and got the part delivered next day, free postage, for less money than the engineer* could find it for with a 6 week lead time.

I think sometimes people are just lazy or get tied into believing that there's only one or two sources of parts available to them.



* he's not an "engineer", he's a mechanic/techie. and a cack-handed one at that.. I've never seen so many screws with stripped heads. I fitted the new heater and made good myself, piece of piss and neat finish.

Worse thing about having dogs is the attachment you get to them and the void once they've gone. At least the Good Boy will not be suffering....

The missus was finally able to give full story .
These 2 big tumors are also causing his breathing problems. Always short panting.
They're only gonna get worse and cause more problems.
We're shoving strawberry Greek yogurt down his throat in a syringe. He's not struggling so seems to understand we're helping.

And just bought some baby food as recommended by vet.
Just wanna make him feel ok

Thankfully he's picked up over the weekend.
His eyes told me it wasn't time.
Giving him lots of baby food and nice stuff like bacon etc
And lots of doggy treats.
He manages 3 or 4 short walks a day
And happily trots round the garden. Big sparkly eyes and waggy tail

It's not time yet. We've shed some tears.
We'll know when. He'll tell us

I'd say both parties are pretty crap at their jobs if they specced a part which can't be found and then struggled for a year without sorting an alternative

The specifics in question are 90deg nut plates... Hardly the stuff of TS/SCI... & we're talking one engineer specing the part & another engineer failing to find them. Neither of them are aircraft mechs.

I met a friend after work today (I finished around lunchtime) - bloody awesome time cos she's one of very very few here that I can just say what I think without worrying about if someone will 'get' it or be offended !!!!

She speaks and understands English better than I do French and is happy for me to just chat, so I don't have to speak slowly or think about what words I'm using.

We laughed so so much about so many different things - bloody fantastic afternoon


(Although I am realising that I might be forgetting some English words or phrases - maybe I didn't know some, but I definitely struggle to translate the odd things that she asks me, but we have a giggle about that!!)


One thing that took her a moment to 'get' was when she asked me to translate 'noix' - so that is a walnut, but a direct translation is just nut. Noix coque is a nut in a shell - so I did laugh too much at that cos my brain heard cock, not coque and only translated noix and not coque

I then explained that I struggled to explain something by phone on Saturday as the AD Blue pump had a leak at the point where the pipe meets the pump handle - only pipe, if pronounced as a French, does NOT mean pipe well, not in general language/slang I've been told


So awesome to have even just the one friend I can chat like that in English and just laugh so so much !!! (I have another French friend like that, but he doesn't speak English, so I have to chat in French - which mostly works, but not quite the same )

The decision to have a dog put down is so bloody hard, I've done it when I've second guessed it, third and fourth guessed it.
Too soon and they miss out and too late they suffer in pain.
We left it too long with our last dog (Abe) but the vets kept on saying this and that would perk him up. Seems obvious now but they just slowed his decline down a bit.
Personally I favour farm vets who are good at giving out the "Quality of life" talk.

One thing I would say is we left it waay too long between losing Abe (2014) and getting Floyd (2021) and I didn't realise just how good it was to have that energetic pall to insist I got my shit together regularly. Plus lets face it, although my non existent dog (when I didn't have one for seven years) was no bother to clean up after, and my non existent dog never ran off after a deer even so its much nicer to share those walks. Even when I have to pick up dog eggs.
I feel that my life is just more enjoyable with the little guy and feel I wasted a fair chunk of time between em.

Today did start with a bit of fear and annoyance, BUT

I drove a manual bus (a biggun - almost 13m )


Basically I have asked to drive the bigger buses to practice ready for the darker mornings/nights and the snow - better to practice on clear dry roads. But it turns out that they don't have a load of routes for the autos.

The reason this in ITTMYH -

I did quite a decent route, going up to two resorts (mine and one with a challenging road up) and IT DIDN'T HURT MY ARM


I was so happy I rushed into the office when I got back to tell them

It did help that the first person on the bus this morning was an ex bus driver and said that each gear has a bigger "range" of speed/power than I'd expect so I don't need to change gear as often as I'd expect - he was totally right. And using the ralentisseur (don't know the english word, is it 'retarder' ? It slows the vehicle on engine speed without changing gear) I hardly needed to change gear going down the two mountain roads


Here's hoping I can do more different routes now
