Don't know - never used one!

My worry about them is that whatever muck ends up inside it stays inside it but then lots of people use them and seem happy.

Clearly the previous owner chucked the parts catalogue at it, R&G bar ends, crash bobbins and tailtidy, mirror extenders, Scorpion exhaust etc. etc blah. But most of that is stuff i'd put on one anyway, so I went for this one rather than a local one and saved myself a few quid down the line. But it'll be having the stickers removed from the belly pan and that shock thing cut off.

The bike is oop norf somewhere, so I put down click and collect from the London branch. Turns out its a glitch in their website and that shouldn't have been an option,but as its their fault they're delivering it and waving the delivery fee (£199). Result!

I considered a shock sock on my 690 as even with a hugger extender the shock was getting a fair few stone chips. For a summer bike they are probably good at protecting the shock from stones/dust. But for an all weather bike I reckon it'd trap salty water against the shock which can't be a good thing.

Then again you'll have sold it before it next rains

Actually looking at the pic again, there is no hugger of any sort on that bike so I should imagine the shock is right in the firing line for stones.

Having a Ducati with a SSSA and then going to another bike with one too, meant a quick pin change sees me being able to keep using the paddock stand I bought!

I had a CB1000R a few years ago, I hated it. I've owned a few naked 4's over the years and have never kept one longer than a month. It's like the definitation of lunacy, trying the same thing and expecting a different result.

So it should work for me as, if anything, I worry its going to be too much for me!

I had the wonderful K1200R for a bit and it was superb and insanely fast!! Happily back on a much slower, but more engaging Speed Triple. I can still loose my license, but I have to try a bit harder! Larger capacity IL4's are nice, but they dispatch speed too easily for me.

TBH I'm more looking for something that's easy to ride, tractable and smooth and this should be that in spades. If its not, its gone!

I've no idea what the CB1000 is like, but the GSXS is a great road bike. Well geared and with plenty of grunt to make road riding fun. Given how much I liked the 690 I was thinking the 1000 would be well OTT but I'm loving it. Top speed on Sunday on my 152 mile ride was 94 mph and that was only cos I was playing with how effective the screen was. I spend most of my time rolling around in the midrange.

I found the older model a bit, well.... meh... Nothing wrong with it as such, but nothing that really jumped out at me either. I rode it back to back with a 990 Superduke and got off it a little underwhelmed.

The later one though, i absolutely LOVED as you'll have seen in other posts... If i were buying a motorbike again, either the XSR or the Honda would be topping my list. However i'd say it's pretty likely i won't own a motorbike again.

I'm trying to remember the last IL4 I had or rode? I think it was my ZX9R Streetfighter but that was way back in 2008! So I don't really have anything to compare the cb1r to. I'll take it on its own merits and let's be honest, it doesn't matter if I don't like it, as I'll just change it for something else. I'm already lining up some just-in-cases!

I reckon you'd love the Hyper! Have you ridden one?

I was completely astounded i liked it... When he brought it out i was a bit 'Oh... maybe i won't go for a ride'... but when i jumped on it and ride it, i loved the thing, i actually phoned 3 different places while sitting in a cafe and tried to buy one, but the deal didn't quite work out.

I've not ridden a Hyper no, not of any of the generations, which is quite surprising actually.

It put me straight in mind of my 690, but with a more than noticeable, bit more grunt to say the least! If you ever did return to biking I reckon a SP version would be biking nirvana for you!

I honestly just can't see a world where i'd spend that sort of money on a bike mate. I'd be more the 600 Bandit range if wanting to get back in...

But that said, i don't disagree with you in some ways. The 821 version does it for me aesthetically

I honestly just can't see a world where i'd spend that sort of money on a bike mate. I'd be more the 600 Bandit range if wanting to get back in...

But that said, i don't disagree with you in some ways. The 821 version does it for me aesthetically

I was looking at them originally, but there are some real horror stories about fried ECUs and dashboards. The 939 looks pretty much the same as it has the same body work etc but it has all the problems ironed out. So if you ever did go back, that's the better choice.
