One minor thing today, we had coolant out of the overflow bottle pipe at one stage.
She came in from session, pulled into garage, it was running for a minute or so and then shut off.

Next thing, coolant.

I checked fan, checked levels and whilst now on the lower line it was ok.

Check the radiator cap,sometimes you can get a build up of gunk/corrosion,then the system fires pressure into the expansion tank.

Self-initialted discussions at the moment on the ZX6

It's now only been basic home serviced since Feb 2018 when we bought it. It's had regular oil and filters, new pads, new plugs and air filter, but nothing like the valve clearances have been touched.

So i'm thinking it's time to throw it in for a full service. That comes in at about £500 with valves done.

It's done 2500 miles in our ownership which isn't excessive but obviously all apart from riding to/back MOT have been on circuit.

So, do i throw £500 at it for a service, or do i just throw an oil and filter at it?

Or do i throw £1500 at it over winter and transform it into a ZX10R/ZX6R 2014> or something like a 2009 Fireblade.

Just ask them to check valves and do any work that you don't normally do. No point in paying extra.

Dealer services are a fucking rip off (leaving aside the element of "CBA to do it yourself", in which case they're great ). I would only pay em to do stuff you don't have the skills/kit to do yourself.

Technically 15,000. It's on 12,500 now

Wow, thats low, thought they'd be nearer 25k.

My ZX10R was used hard enough,not as hard as track use,granted,but shims were still within tolerances at 24k.

2.5k is nothing.

weeksy you're pretty handy with the spanners and there's plenty of knowledgeable people willing to help. You can at least check the valves yourself and take it to a dealer if any need doing.

If you didn't live so far away I would come and do the valves while you cleaned my Ducati

Agreed I could and that's a great offer but it's different with this bike because for example Silverstone is £250 for the day and if we turn up and something isn't right then we're a day off work, £250 and a grumpy wife. That's not something we can risk, so I'd rather give the bike to someone qualified and have it back 100% ready to go without any discussion.

If it were a road bike, it's no loss if I got 2 miles into a ride, but this is different

Your bike is not about to spontaneously blow up cause the valve check is due in a bit.

In fact I'd not be at all surprised if the 15k check revealed none need doing.
