Because the end of the guard goes where your finger goes near the end of the bar.

Loads of people use many things i don't like :) Doesn't mean i like em.
If your hands are that big you could space the guard out a bit.

Hopp RT say:

MSV tracks usually require all bikes to have front brake lever guards fitted, but we have special permission to ride without using them. If your bike is road legal, you’ll be fine.

There was an incident earlier this year at Snetterton, this is the one where it has been alleged that if a brake lever guard was fitted the outcome may have been different.
To be fair, they are cheap enough on ebay and more than robust enough plus if you have an off cheap to replace, easy to fit in all of 5 minutes. As for trackdays i can tell you at some trackdays I have seen more money thrown at bikes than some people do in racing.

Some of that comes from marketing products that really are not needed, but clever marketing can sell many things easily. Some of it comes from people just wanting to look good, my real fear this year has been the sharp rise in people riding in the wrong groups and that goes in both directions. It can be very unnerving for a true novice to trackdays on his road bike to be passed by a fast group level rider carving past them on an apex, it shouldn't but it does happen. You just have to read some of the comments on certain facebook pages to see this.

Even track days have become hugely commercialised, at the end of the day its a business venture to make money which is fine, but I do think that perhaps the whole industry needs to review its practices and consider how it can change for the better. I look forward to getting back on track in 2021 at some point and if time/finances allow my preference would be for a european day. When we were in Spain testing back in January for BSB we were spent 4 days in Jerez with Pacedays and the atmosphere was superior to the UK scene.

I did my first trackday in 30 odd years this summer and this bloke was out on track in the Novice group . Desmodue racer as far as i know and no way should have been in the group .....however he rode to the standard of the group. He was fast as fuck but didnt dive bomb anyone, held back when he had a small opening just in case the guy in front did something a novice could but when he had a clear track off he went. He was good enough to go around the outside of people or inside if they were offline. He passed me a few times during the day in various sessions and after the first one when i thought "fucking hell he is fast" didnt bother me after that as i knew he wouldnt be close to me. I had more issues with my fellow novices

I think you missed my point. I had no issues with this bloke at all. He wasnt showing off, he was just doing his thing and gave full consideration to the guys on track with him and was probably booked in just to get a slot on the trackday. Yes he was in the wrong group but he didnt do anything to upset those of us who were proper novices. Even in Novice he struggled on the straights due to lack of power compared to a few with 150-160 BHP but in the corners was blinding fast as he knew how to ride

As i said there were a few others in the group i had more problems with braking early, wrong line etc as i am sure i pissed a few off with how i rode .....this lad was fast but considerate to those around him

Back on the subject of brake guards I was in touch with another Multistrada owner who is booked in with No Limits at Donington and they have said his standard fitted hand guards are sufficient to count as brake guards so no need to fit a race one

Initially it was MSV who own most of the tracks but most TDO are also now on that page as shown by PBTD requiring the brake guards for their non MSV events ;)

No Limits weren't obviously checking at Lydden on Saturday, but I guess maybe they were looking, just not making it obvious- one change this time (it's my first day this year) though was every single session, they checked everybody's helmet strap before letting you out.

Common practice helmet straps for years, mostly they just look, occasional there a bit more thorough usually beginning of season
