I was going to say: a rotary makes a lot of sense, mainly because they're a lot smaller for similar output and a lot less energy losses due to reciprocating masses etc etc etc. Of course the downside is that they're often not nearly as fuel efficient, but if you're running it at peak efficiency all the time, then that reduces the offset somewhat.

Didn't know about that one...interesting! Nissan have just strapped an engine to a Leaf haven't they :D That's what BMW did with the i3 Rex too, they put a 600cc scooter engine in an EV. Nissan have done the same thing only with a bigger engine/smaller battery.

Nissan claim 62mpg, which is less than my 2 tonne German saloon with just an ICE used to get. The double energy transfer of mech-> electrical-> mech just kills it. It doesn't make much sense to me to have a tiny battery in this context, the BMW solution was much better and even they stopped doing it because batteries improved.

One of the main reasons you might do it is just cost, not having a gearbox is one less thing to pay for.

This car makes way more sense, it's got a much bigger battery and you can plug it in. It's much more like being the BMW solution of an EV with it's own power station.

That is exactly why I bought an electric motorcycle.

To spite Taipan? Seems a bit petty ;)

I started to write out my reply a couple of days ago to another post I made a while back to which Skub has revived. I wanted to wait until, I actually had the bike and that it had its first 1000 mile service before outing myself :D

Taipans post is just the opposite of my thoughts. I love owning and driving my Tesla and I love riding my electric motorcycle. Both make me smile when I look at them, and both make me smile even wider when I use them.

At 67¾ I have a few years riding left and this one will makes ME happy doing it.
