Well this has escalated quickly.

I woke up this morning with pretty bad pain, like when I first injured myself. Was worried I'd reherniated myself but managed to get Baby D to and from school.

Been laid in bed with a cracking headache and nausea all day.

Long story short, after calling the hospital and also NHS 111 a couple of times I've won a ride to A&E in the big yellow van.

I'm fine so long as I don't move, talk or shake my head. Suspected infection, need a whole load of tests and MRis.

Ambulance wanker!

(I'm currently watching the Bus Wanker episode of the Inbetweeners)

Guy next to me is getting KYd for a catheter and he's really not enjoying it.

Private hospital with your own room is much better I have to say.

I've had an MRi and the consultants are just confused. Still got a strong fever, back still hurts.

They're making me slightly radioactive and sending me for another MRI.

If it is a spinal infection, I definitely would not recommend. All I can see is this is like having a minging hangover and a bad back at the same time. It's only the arm full of drugs they've given me which lets me type this.

That is not just a nice bike, it is a project to last a lifetime.

GWS mate, I like the bike but would prefer you finish fettling it for a year or two yet.

Not dead yet, but given the apparently minor nature of my condition I got closer than you might expect

Skip to the end, I picked up an infection around my surgery site, probably during the surgery itself. They always tell you up front there's a risk of infection but you of course never believe it will happen to you. Expect this time it did.

I got an Ambulance ride to MK on Monday night and was put straight onto antibiotics and an MRI. Second MRI with contrast the next day.

Over Tuesday and Wednesday I had 4 or 5 (can't remember) 'septic showers'… which are not something you can get in a Dutch brothel but rather when your body suddenly gets hit with a load of bacteria and kicks off basically every inflammatory response at once. My body temperature hit 40.9 degrees (over 41 is considered immediate threat to life), I felt like I was swimming in ice water and uncontrolled spasm and fever.

Now imagine you have a slipped disc in your back, then imagine you're shaking so hard you might break your teeth, then imagine how those two things feel in combination

In the middle of the night/this morning they bussed me over the JR in Oxford on lights and sirens, which was kinda fun , juiced up on morphine and some kind of gas and air, then opened me up and cleaned a load of gunk out. They did at the JR cause apparently this place has really good surgery facilities/people.

Since last night I've been on 4 IV antibiotics, a combination the doctor described as "Basically Demestos". Probably gonna be on IV antibiotics for the next 8-12 weeks. Fixed my toothache already though, maybe I don't need root canal any more.

You're going to need some probiotics after all those antibiotics! Your gut will be waving a white flag.

(All things considered, that's a minor issue!).

Post opiate constipation sucks donkey dick.

Hospital food sucks even bigger donkey balls. I'm getting a deliveroo tonight

I never understand why medics don't add in something to prevent this - I mean they know that most people suffer like this with opiate meds, surely it would be better to add in something to prevent it rather than leave a patient in pain for another reason
