There are also much duller technical reasons. Even here on Earth we don't really broadcast out into space any more, after only about 100 years of having done so. We don't need to, we developed methods of only broadcasting information to the intended recipient, thus saving loads of power. Aliens are probably the same.
NASA have run serious trials to see if they can use probes which fly by Earth* to detect proof of out civilization

The idea being, see how good we are at detecting a civilization which we know exists. Despite the fact we absolutely know there's life down here, the probes did not detect it with resounding proof

It was only the presence of narrow band radio emissions which gave us away with any kind of certainty, if they'd flown past 200 years earlier the probe would have missed us.

*It's quite common for probes on their way to Mars, Venus, the Sun etc. to fly close by Earth one or more times on their journey, such is the weirdness of orbital mechanics
