I was struggling with going from a 2020s triple back to an an old nail from the 80s. How on earth can anyone say the XSR is shite and then go looking at EXUP ffs! :wtf: You can only dream of getting a EXUP into anything that goes stops and handles half as well as a XSR! Apples and oranges, more like apples and jellyfish!
It was just being used as an example because the Exup (when it came out) was towards the top end of what was available and that's what I was hoping for with the 900GP.

I saw the 900GP advertised last year and I thought it was going to be something really special, towards the top end of the market, an XSR but with top end running gear and additions and I have twenty grand to drop on a bike if it lights my fire. When I first saw the 900GP I thought that was going to be the bike for me, but it's disappointed me. On paper it's beyond the limits of my skill on track or road, but it doesn't feel special, or look special when you get up close, it just looks like a budget bike and that isn't what I want.

I wanted an exup, I wanted a blade, I wanted a 916, etc, they all made me feel special when they came out, the 900GP doesn't and that's why I'm disappointed.

I don’t think it’s that, I’d be packing the garage with new stuff every weekend if I was chasing youthful adrenaline hits.

These days if I buy something I want it to feel special rather than just run of the mill. In my head I’d invented this 900GP as something equivalent to my MV Agusta and it’s not going to hit that spot and it’s left me a bit miffed.

Still think I prefer the council spec one. But then I'd be buying a bike on its merits, not on whether it made me feel special.

There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

I know you know the realities of an old bike as you have a few. Just not sure how or why people have featured them in this thread?

My MT09 was my first triple and I absolutely loved the engine. I dont push a bike so even at my wight the suspension wasn't an issue. But if me were thee and i needed better bouncy bits and I loved the look of this bike, i'd just buy it and drop it off at somewhere like MCT Suspension and get them to revalve/respring it to what i wanted/needed it bounce like. I'd also get it remapped too. Then I'd be happy with a bespoke version, if you will, off a cracking looking bike.

The first bike I wanted so much I thought I'd explode if I didn't get one was the 1983 YPVS350, the last was the 98 R1, I wish I could get as excited about bikes as I used to, but I think I'm enjoying riding a bike more than I ever have because I'm not as bothered about what I ride as I was 25 years ago.

Which one? Many on the forum seem to not like the 900GP or many are frustrated that they no longer feel the passions of youth?

I said this the other day...
Potter wrote: Tue Apr 30, 2024 3:09 pm I've got no problem admitting that I'm longing for my youth back, I've got a great life but I'd be quite happy to be nineteen again.
But do you know I'm not so sure, I've still got decent health, can still fit into 32" trousers nicely, can still run ten miles a day, I'm minted, got a cracking wife, ace family, big dream house, etc, etc.

I don't know if I would swap what I have now to be nineteen again, I'm pretty bloody happy being right where I am right now, so in all honestly if I had a magic wand I'd probably stay as I am - well except wish for a 900GP with Ohlins suspension and a Spondon beam frame

If you want something a bit special... like an MV.

But you want something a bit retro (albeit more 60's retro than 80's)

There's only one answer.

The Superveloce.

You can even get one with a brown seat!

I might do both, or one, or the other, but I like buying stuff because it makes me feel good, whether it's a haircut, a pair of trainers, or a bike.
People buy stuff all the time to feel good, there is nowt wrong with it most of the time, as long as it's not mail order brides or exploited sweatshop produced clothing or something.

Could you throw Ohlins stuff at it and whack one of these fairing kits on? https://www.rideapart.com/news/718264/h ... s-fairing/

Yeah but it would be at Panigale prices by the time I'd finished.

If the factory did it they can buy Ohlins using economy of scale and have a batch built specially to a spec and price, but me doing it as a special would cost a lot. It's obviously possible and it would feel good, but I'd rather buy a Paton or something.

I was going to comment that Yamaha own most of Ohlins so it wouldn't be much of a stretch, however Google says Mr Ohlins bought a load of it back in 2007 and is now the majority share holder with 95% of shares.

The pictures I’ve seen from the launch (see attached) have the fairing and pipe. So if you want that one then it’s £15k+
I dont like faired bikes but i love the look of these!

Lol, don't get me started again, I love the look - imagine if it had Ohlins, Brembo, loads of carbon, titanium, etc.

Si Hargreaves gives it a good review. Sounds like a good bike, not sure I'd want the riding position but for short sharp rides it'd probably be fine.

I'm definitely not one of the ones lacking passion about bikes, I absolutely love mine and it rides great. Was about to fork out for MCT to work on the suspension but the Mrs job is looking iffy so will hang fire short term.
