Admittedly i'd have the XSR as well, but only because of riding position. But that thing looks superb.
Each to their own. That back end just looks unfinished to me. But agree entirely about the riding position thing.

I like it from that angle (but still not the Akra). I don't the 'crippling riding position' criticism from the reviews - it looks fairly tame for a bike with clip-ons but then I've not even sat on one.

I still haven't come to terms with the GP's letterbox headlight. The base model XSR900 does so many things better than the GP.

I still prefer the MT09 out of all the CP3 variants, only bettered by the SP. 👍

I think that most people have concluded that the base XSR is the better value and has the more relaxed riding position, while still having pretty much the same running gear and spec as the GP. The standard XSR in the white/red colour scheme still looks pretty tasty to me. I'll be surprised if you don't see quite a lot of GPs heavily discounted over this coming winter.

Took my tape measure into LBS yesterday to confirm/deny a thought that had crossed my mind.
On the new xsr/GP, the forks looked VERY familiar.
Apart from the fork cap, they are the gen 1 mt09sp units. The tape measure agrees with me.

But they could be completely different inside then too?

So they share the same external dimensions, what's that really telling us?

You can compare the part numbers.

I dunno how Yam part numbering works, looks like the first part is the model code, for instance the forks springs are...

2022 MT-09 SP - B7N-23141-00 (same as the stock MT-09)
2024 XSR900 GP - BMG-23141-00

I can't be arsed to check the damping rods, etc..

I was bored so used Capt Panigale's link to the parts fiche.
Same part numbers for the dampers.....even the same number on the selection list......apart from the model number, almost identical fiches
