Hopefully once that's all sorted you'll be good for a while, this bike has certainly demanded it's pound of flesh.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say mille enjoys fixing this stuff
At least you're not also dealing with 30 years of corrosion and gunk!
You're right in that I enjoy the wanking of spanners more than I really should, but the engine issues are a tad annoying. But, as you say, it could be worse...
All parts, new and second hand, and consumables are bought or on order and should - fingers crossed - be here for the weekend. I'm going to take the opportunity while the right hand engine cover is off to machine away the clutch basket cover to allow the clutch to breather, so to speak, like this...

Fantastic, just read from start to finish. Last time I saw this was over on t'other forum and Etto had just started the tank, so it's bloody good to see it together and running!! Top work
@millemille and all concerned.

Good news: engine fully fixed and running like a dream.
Bad news: the bloody, shitty, crappy pillion seat lock decided to spontaneously open and eject the very nice, impossible to replace, Ducati Performance pillion seat.

Cool on the engine front.
Was the seat retrieved and fixable,or trashed/lost?

I've driven 10 miles or so of the route I took where I think it came off with no sign of it, but I've got no idea where it came off and it could have travelled a long way after it was ejected. Got a shout out on the local riders fb group to see if anyone has come across it and picked it up...

With a bit of luck hopefully the right person will find it and hand it over.

The standard seats are covered with a formed perforated/dimpled vinyl. The Ducati Performance ones are covered with a smooth leather-ette vinyl with stitched seams and an embossed DP logo. The local guy who retrimmed the rider seat could, I'm sure, cover a standard pillion seat to look like a DP one, except for the DP logo. I'll get a standard one for the time being and add it to the "to do" list for over the winter or when my ban finally arrives...

Had it happen twice with my Tuono, when the peg on the seat vibrated loose. The first time a mate was following and sawm where it went, the second time I was at the back and had no idea where it went. Since then (several years), I've had a long cable tie loop round a frame tube under the seat and the end screwed to the seat. Of course it's not come loose since.

I don't think it's any coincidence that Falco pillion seats are very rare, highly sought after, and fetch silly prices. Same applies as with Tuonos I'd guess.

If that place isn't twinned with either Scunthorpe or Cockermouth*, there's no justice in the world.
* And there's a place nearby called Shatton.

Now that's a fucked up state of affairs, isn't it?

Won’t be sorted with a bit of sikaflex will it? Aluminium quality issue as I’ve seen mooted or design not fit for UK rail networks idiosyncrasies? At least it was spotted before fatalities unlike the rolling contact fatigue/GCC issues of the early 2000’s.

I always say it as "penis tone", as in the colour of your old chap.

The fact that it's spread across multiple fleets of differing ages and duty cycles suggests, to me at least, something other than a design issue, unlike the CAF yaw damper brackets....
