QS and blipper is a waste of time, if I had the choice between these and heated grips, I'd take heated grips.
Traction Control is good, but it needs to be adjustable.

ABS is good, but mines only ever came on once at walking pace on a slippery wet brick road surface.

The biggest problem with old 4 strokes is the carbs, they get gummed up if you don't use the bike a lot.

You're probably right there, I've seen really tidy and well looked after Exups going for just a few grand (there are some going for £1500 but I'm talking about really tidy low mileage examples that have been pampered) and then throw another few grand on suspension and if you're feeling really special then a blueprinted engine, and you'd have something really nice.

All I'm gonna add is that my GSXS 1000 is essentially a modern Bandit 1200. But, and it's a sizable but, its a chunk better than my 96 model Fireblade which was the Billy big bollocks bike of its day. It's heavier, but it's got a lot more power, more torque, has better suspension, better brakes and handles better. I reckon you'd have to spend a LOT of money to get an EXUP to anywhere near what's now a modern Bandit. And that's before you add 20 years of age and the fact GSXS has traction and ABS. The GSXS has pretty much a previous gen GSXR 1000 frame and swingarm which I think is why it handles so well, I found it handled loads better than the Gen 2 MT09 which felt...odd. And best of all it was (admittedly a bargain deal) £8k pre registered. It's not as cool as the XSR900GP (although I don't like it, but thats imo) but other than that the the XSR isn't objectively better for nearly twice the price. I think that's part of the problem with the price. The MT09 is a budget modern Bandit too, but somehow in this guise its 15k. When it came out the MT09 was cheap but like all bikes it's crept up. Tbf the right price of the GSXS is 11,500 I think but there are deals everywhere.

If you want an EXUP, just buy a nice one for what it is. Trying to turn one into an XSR900 beater is a fools errand and you'll lose a shed load of cash on it to boot.

Looks nice, not sure if I want one with 400 bhp, it'll be a proper handful, they don't weigh much, the road legal 934 that I knew of in the 80s had that sort of power and was supposed to do 190 mph (it was second in class at Le Mans before it became a road car)

I was struggling with going from a 2020s triple back to an an old nail from the 80s. How on earth can anyone say the XSR is shite and then go looking at EXUP ffs! You can only dream of getting a EXUP into anything that goes stops and handles half as well as a XSR! Apples and oranges, more like apples and jellyfish!

I don’t think it’s that, I’d be packing the garage with new stuff every weekend if I was chasing youthful adrenaline hits.

These days if I buy something I want it to feel special rather than just run of the mill. In my head I’d invented this 900GP as something equivalent to my MV Agusta and it’s not going to hit that spot and it’s left me a bit miffed.

Still think I prefer the council spec one. But then I'd be buying a bike on its merits, not on whether it made me feel special.

It was just being used as an example because the Exup (when it came out) was towards the top end of what was available and that's what I was hoping for with the 900GP.

I saw the 900GP advertised last year and I thought it was going to be something really special, towards the top end of the market, an XSR but with top end running gear and additions and I have twenty grand to drop on a bike if it lights my fire. When I first saw the 900GP I thought that was going to be the bike for me, but it's disappointed me. On paper it's beyond the limits of my skill on track or road, but it doesn't feel special, or look special when you get up close, it just looks like a budget bike and that isn't what I want.

I wanted an exup, I wanted a blade, I wanted a 916, etc, they all made me feel special when they came out, the 900GP doesn't and that's why I'm disappointed.

I know you know the realities of an old bike as you have a few. Just not sure how or why people have featured them in this thread?

My MT09 was my first triple and I absolutely loved the engine. I dont push a bike so even at my wight the suspension wasn't an issue. But if me were thee and i needed better bouncy bits and I loved the look of this bike, i'd just buy it and drop it off at somewhere like MCT Suspension and get them to revalve/respring it to what i wanted/needed it bounce like. I'd also get it remapped too. Then I'd be happy with a bespoke version, if you will, off a cracking looking bike.

The first bike I wanted so much I thought I'd explode if I didn't get one was the 1983 YPVS350, the last was the 98 R1, I wish I could get as excited about bikes as I used to, but I think I'm enjoying riding a bike more than I ever have because I'm not as bothered about what I ride as I was 25 years ago.

If you want something a bit special... like an MV.

But you want something a bit retro (albeit more 60's retro than 80's)

I was going to comment that Yamaha own most of Ohlins so it wouldn't be much of a stretch, however Google says Mr Ohlins bought a load of it back in 2007 and is now the majority share holder with 95% of shares.

The pictures I’ve seen from the launch (see attached) have the fairing and pipe. So if you want that one then it’s £15k+

Si Hargreaves gives it a good review. Sounds like a good bike, not sure I'd want the riding position but for short sharp rides it'd probably be fine.



I'm definitely not one of the ones lacking passion about bikes, I absolutely love mine and it rides great. Was about to fork out for MCT to work on the suspension but the Mrs job is looking iffy so will hang fire short term.
