Just a couple of hours round the borders before it got dark (it gets dark early up here)

Dead chuffed with the Road 5 GT’s. A vast improvement on the horrible originals.

I thought I might make the most of the weather for possibly the last decent ride of the year (I'm a FWB these days)

I took a run down to Barnard Castle, then over towards Reeth

Image

Then up Swaledale and over Buttertubs to Hawes

Image

Note how the barrier has been designed to slice bikers into manageable slices so it's easier for the emergency services to recover them.

I had planned to stop at Hawes for a cuppa but the place was heaving so I carried on down to Ingleton and stopped at Devil's Bridge for a cuppa and a sandwich. I carried on up to Sedbergh - there were two accidents along this stretch of road, both involving bikes and one with an ambulance in attendance :(

After Sedbergh I carried on to Middleton-in-Teesdale, down to Bishop Aucland and then home for tea. About 170 miles on all sorts of roads from fast open A roads to twisty hairpins and even a mile or two with grass growing in the middle of the road. Although it was busy in places, for a lot of the time there was no traffic, no houses (and no petrol stations)

The sun was out, the forecast was for dry weather and I needed to get out the house. Leathers on and a trip to Aldeburgh planned simply by tapping it into the satnav and selecting twisty route.

A few things to keep me from getting bored :
First three petrol stations were closed. Ended up with 0 range flicking on the dash. I put 22L into the 23L tank
Got routed down a road which apart from the odd view of tarmac was grass, grit, shit etc. I even let a disabled rat cross the road
20 miles later dash tells me I have a puncture. I look for a garage rather than using my C02 cartridges and after trying two garages in Sudbury find a working air line. Sticky string in and pumped up and all good
Fish and chips (it has to be done in Aldeburgh) were good apart from it lashed it down as I was finishing them up off the back of the bike. So much for the forecast.
Engine light came on and put the bike in to limp mode
Got caught in two heavy downpours on way home and lots of wet roads and loads of grit .... which led to a second puncture! I couldn't find the leak and it wasn't from the original. Ended up putting air in at three more fuel stations.
After one stop the bike was still in limp mode but QS and everything else were working again.
After the third stop engine light went off! Only dash light left on was the tyre pressure monitor.
Got home with 10psi in it

Beats sitting in doors though!

If it's a TomTom there is an option to avoid unpaved roads in the settings. Even with that ticked some of the roads are barely roads, but they are at least mainly roads.

Went out with the bike club on Sunday, two groups of 6, all socially distanced, setting off 5 minutes apart. 70 miles on some really snotting back roads.

Quite impressed now how clean the Guzzi was afterwards, everyone else's bikes look like they'd been mud wrestling.

Proper mudguards FTW!

Bombed down the A303 to sell my spare seat to another 1150R owner who'd just bought one with a tasty* paintjob.
I was going to take a pic at StoneHenge, but the traffic was (as always) backed up something horrible and I was filtering through it all so didn't bother to stop.

I hadn't ridden the bike for about a month but it started up first press of the button, no problem. :)

Is the paint job beemer the orange one?

Kinda looks like he was after a R90S style. Doesn't look bad,but seeing in the flesh would be necessary!

yep. The guy I sold the seat to didn't do the paintjob - one of the previous owners did.
It's 'reminiscent' of the R90S paintjob - less smokey and a lot brighter than the original. But I thought it suited the bike rather well.

Yeah, cool. I had the green/grey version back in the day,one of the few bikes I ever made money from!

Garmin 595. It's the First time it's dug out a track like that but I will be more wary now.

There was somebody taking pictures on the road from Hawes to Ingleton, and I was riding slowly enough for him to get me ;)

Pic is ok but I don't know if it's worth £7.50 for a digital image

I've paid lots more for an official digital image and I didn't even get to keep it. ;)

Another day, more damp... Each day lately i've been looking at the forecast and looks good enough, but every day i've woken to damp weather and roads. It then doesn't rain, right up until the roads are 99% dry, then it rains again !

Yup, I've been having exactly the same. Best day was Wed I think here and it dried enough that I thought, right I'm going out at lunch. 10 mins later the sky went black and chucked it down. Only for 10 mins but everything soaked again.
