We had a D30 Sport or GTI or whatever the sporty version was called, but it was utterly dull and unexciting.

I’d have one as a family boring car.

Until I came on here i never knew anyone with a good word to say about Volvos. Around here they have a terrible reputation. My neighbour had so much trouble with his v70 he sold it to buy a Range Rover Discovery, :wtf: which must speak volumes. :D That said since my opinion has been change about them, I find I quite like the look of their SUVs now...
I had a V70 2.5T (auto) and put 190k+ miles on it. It got a bit spendy towards the end so I asked my local service place to scrap it (they got the scrap value and tore up the latest repair bill). One of the staff must have had a use for it as it was still in use 3 years later. :D

They're useful things, nothing touched them for loading options. With the right configuration they could be reasonably plush. The 2.5T variant was a bit cheaper to run than a T5 but still had a bit of oomph about it. I noticed that Volvo service went downhill and costs went up when Ford got involved, at which point I used an independent outfit.

One of our neighbours used to be an AA man and he always said the 2 makes of cars he'd never own were Volvos and Renaults, but thanked them for keeping him gainfully employed! :D

The sister and I at a party yesterday with the mother unit.

When asked who she wanted to drive her home... she said she wanted to go in the nice car, so I had to driver her in my nice S90.

The other option was an Audi Q5... which apparently isn't as nice as a Volvo.

Couple of years back i got a shitty old V50. My van engine blew so this was to be used as a work motor. The leather seats were so cracked they had moss. It stank and had lots of small dents but it had a years MOT. I stole it at 250 quid. One of my customers seen it and told me it Oozed class

Trust me this photo does it justice

I sort of don’t mind spending high end money on high end sports cars but my Caterham was fifty grand (relative peanuts) and will piss on most of them.

So I dunno really.
You have to wonder why " the best car on the planet" is only £5K ?

Is it because it costs £4K a year to keep on the road?

Any 18 year old car that still fetches 5k is probably doing something right.

It’s a £100k+ vehicle when new, so maintenance costs can be very high, this is in part why old examples are cheap, because you’re taking on a potential nightmare.

Personally I’ve had no issues with any of my Landrover vehicles, I’ve had half a dozen and none cost me more than normal service costs. My L322 was a top of the range luxury vehicle when new and it’s nice to drive around in, good visibility in a high up driving position and it handles the potholes and crap UK road quality very well.

That's the Bonhams auction lower estimate.

It's only at 11k so far, but the reserve isn't met.

I bet their buyer fee is top dollar too.

C&P...

Buyer’s premium
7% of the winning bid (minimum £700), plus 20% VAT on the Premium only.

So 27% on top of the hammer price, eek!

Eh? If it goes, say, for 20k, premium is £1400. 20% on that is, um, £280 so £1680 on £20k.

8.4% in my maffs.

(Which may be wrong  ).

Oh yeah, the VAT is only on the premium, my brain hadn't mastered that bit yet.

I only spotted it because I was looking at Cerebras, the prices for those are all over the shop, anywhere between £8k and £28k!

Yeah. Buying a TVR's like playing hopscotch in a minefield. I looked once upon a time, at a dedicated TVR dealers stock, but decided it was all a bit too risky unless it was a 3rd car. (Even from a dealer with some sort of warranty and close enough to do the servicing). They're a bit 'kit car'. Look nice though.
