I reckon the 6.2 C63s will be a future classic. I suspect a lot of the bigger petrol engined cars will be? I suspect your 911 or 930 will double in value in the next 10-15 years.

Thing is, it's lots of Trousers of Time moments with cars and bikes. We can only make the decisions we make at the time. Looking back there are loads of things we could have done differently, but can't change - and would those changes actually have been better??

Depends how good you want it, full paint restoration, there's £5000, full interior another £5000, sort our all the polishing and chroming, another £5000, then throw in the engine at £10,000 to completely go through, maybe new tyres and brakes, all suspension bushings, rubbers etc.. it's countless. Just depends how nice you want it.

Yes, I guess so. But my question is just how much will paint, interior, engine and suspension mechanicals have degraded while it's been standing? If it was cheapskate me I'd give it a damn good top to bottom clean, replace the tyres, fuel hose and all fuids and just run it for a bit to see what it really needed. But then I'm not one of the super-rich (or even rich) and money is definitely a consideration.

I've had some experience of this, but on a much lower budget and for a smaller time period with my Lancia Beta. It sat unused in a UK lockup for best part of 10 years and all it needed to get it roadworthy again was a set of tyres, fluid change and general service.

It had been sat unloved for twenty something years and in this environment even in a basement it's about 3" deep in dust.
There is an Aprillia RSV that has sat in an underground car park for all the time I lived in Dubai and after a few years you couldn't see what colour it was.

I didn't see the Porsche before the restoration but he said it was "very terrible" and as he's got more money than he knows what to do with he wanted the whole thing done up like a brand new car, if I gave you a quid now for every spec of dust on it or anything that didn't look brand new then you'd struggle to get enough together to buy a pint. I think most of the hoses and all that stuff were replaced, there is a massive (like 6" thick) pile of receipts and I don't think a single one was for less than a grand sterling, he's spent tens of thousands, probably upwards of £50k on it based on the receipts, I felt embarrassed going through them because he kept telling me "everything" was replaced and I think he thought I didn't believe him.

I guess there are different challenges when cars are stored in a dry, albeit dusty environment compared to a UK lockup that's cold and damp. Sounds like you've effectively got a brand new classic Porsche - nice one.

I ‘found’ it yesterday, almost walked past it and then did a double take, made a daft offer to buy it and he said yes. So now I have to buy it or make an excuse.
It’s a 993 Carrera 4, like new with <10k kms on it.

Don't make an excuse - JFDI!! Especially if it's a proper daft offer!! Hell, you can always pass it on if you don't like how it drives, but how can you miss the opportunity!!

This is a guy where money literally means nothing to him, he could spend a million a week and not run out of money even if he lives to be a hundred.

He's got cars that I didn't even know what they are, they looked like F1 cars but some were road legal, I think one was some sort of carbon fibre Aston Martin that looked like the F1 car that Batman would drive. He had various one-seater Ferraris (2 Monza SP1s for example) and other stuff, I thought I knew my cars but I didn't know these.

Probably an Aston Martin Valkyrie. Originally dreamt up by Adrian Newey (him off of 20 something F1 titles), built partly by Red Bull F1 and then spun off into a complicated mire of commercial affairs when Aston and Red Bull parted ways.

I did a bunch of stuff on the front and rear wings. The rear wing (cause its exhaust blown) is made from the same high temp composite as the Boeing Starliner space capsule.

Yes, but then I wondered how many Porsches I need and also has the complete restoration damaged the value, my mate thinks not, he said he can sell it for me easily.

You have heard of the 'N+1' formula regarding the ideal number of bikes to own? I'm sure the same can be applied to Porsches...

My mate has about a dozen, collected over a lifetime of working on them, all Speedsters or rare types. It’s his retirement package, not that he needs one.

But he also has the space for them and I don’t really, I need to buy an industrial unit.

An aircraft hanger with a small mezzanine area for actually living is my dream - as per Dirk Pitt (Clive Cussler books) !!! But a barn would be a good second. Up here, if I can get a garage I'll be dancing like I've won the lotto!!

Decided to take it for its first proper drive today, just before it goes off for a couple of months into the fixer shop.
I said I wasn’t going to drive it properly until it’s all done but it’s mechanically sound and went through an MOT with no advisories and the forecast is dry and even a bit sunny, plus I’ve got a free day, so it would be rude not to.

They have a global reputation and nickname of The Widow Maker, so by the end of the day I’ll either be happy or wrapped around a tree.

Exciting stuff! Just don't take your foot off the accelerator through the corner or expect to see the rear end overtaking you!
