What you want is a nice GSXS 1000. Pick a gear, any gear will work at about 20mph and it trickles along nicely. It does have an iffy fueling spot but much higher up the rev range but it's perfect in traffic

There's no iffy fueling on the 750, but then again I don't trickle along at low rpm in high gears, or go out of my way to find bad fuelling, I also owned a Husky 610 with a Dell Horrible carb, which fuelled worse than a poorly tuned two stroke, so what I consider good might be what Taipan considers bad.

Wouldn't say iffy as such l, but very very sensitive at about 7-8k rpm. OK on or off the throttle completely but trying to be sensitive and its cuts in/out. I ride round it most of the time, but it's there

Like I say, for a fair chunk of my commute, I'm at part throttle, 2-4k ish revs which is where most modern Fi bikes play up, so I notice it more than most.would obvs! I thoroughly enjoyed Saturdays ride out on the Essex peninsular, but it was a marked contrast to today's commute. Its no biggie though as I already knew it'd be like this and have had a bike remapped, like many others, I know what massive difference that can make and look forward to getting it done. The point of mentioning these things is I don't like to gloss over things that are apparent with any model of bike I own. It can be misleading to prospective buyers of the same model.

Anyway, enough of that, the bike was superb in batting through the traffic on the way home. IIRC someone said it was heavy, but ti doesn't feel it.The opposite in fact, its very flickable! Sadly the exhaust had to be removed. The angle was all wrong, which i'd have seen if I hadn't legged it indoors when the heavens opened yesterday. I checked the SC project website and sure enough, there is a hanger bracket that I didn't get. I connected the seller who hasn't got the hanger but apologised and offered full refund etc.

I connected SC Project who replied straight back! Yes they will sell me the hanger bracket and ist a lot cheaper than sy a R&G one (see below). I'm hoping the seller will refund me that amount rather than take the exhaust back, as that would work better for both of us. We'll see what he says tomorrow.

Seller paying for the new hanger bracket. Proper chuffed about that, as its the can I wanted and saves me a good few quid over a new one. Dunno how long it'll take to get here from Italy though. Probably sold the bike by then!

No offence, TP (and it probably applies to many others too), but the 'fuelling issues' are likely to be because of two things:
1. FI systems, switching off fuel to the motor on a closed throttle
2. Owners having a rip-snorting huge bhp engine, then not riding it in a way that uses the high power part of the rev range

Probably an indictment of owners more than bikes

I find it kinda strange that people will swap makes of performance tyres as they cant ride on one make over another, or change suspension etc, yet put up with shit fuelling that can be fixed? But then many years ago I was talking with legendary tuner, Stan Stephens. He was telling me about hosting dyno days for groups of people, where they'd come in and all get a dyno run for a pissing contest. He said so many would say they'd fitted a dynojet kit and now the bike had a massive top end rush. The reality was the bike was just climbing out of the massive hole in the midrange they'd just dialled in by incorrectly fitting a DJ kit. So I guess some people just don't notice bad fuelling, or care about it?

IMHO, is it worth trying a carb'd bike as reckon that may suit your riding better but then I guess cause you issues with ULEZ?

EDIT: Looks like there are carb'd bikes that are ULEZ compliant

I have to say that my v7 850 runs very well and is predictable. The low down torque that kicks in around 3000 rpm or so makes for a flexible engine in most gears. Position is slightly forward as opposed to sitting upright. I'm biased, but would recommend a demo ride.

Since I dropped my allegiance toJap bikes, a Guzzi has been on my radar for while now. It might well be the next bike?

It'd probably be worth trying out at least. Bt for now I'm super pleased with the Ducati, so I'll see April out before looking at anything else!

Similar to the people that shell out shitloads of money on 'lightweight' wheels, cans, frame etc etc etc and yet they are 6 stone overweight! There was never any point me buying weight saving stuff for the bike as I had a bit to lose first

Brakes second.

Ergonomics 3rd.

My requirements are also a lot different from yours Terrapin,I don't commute and I avoid riding in traffic as much as I possibly can.
