Alcohol free drinks, the gender ambiguity of chemistry.

Beancounter wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 12:42 pm Caught up with a few ex-colleagues last night. I was on the bike so drinking light - three pints of Brewdog's Punk AF over the course of four hours. I feel rotten today, similar to if I'd drunk 8 pints of Becks/Amstel/Peroni. This seems to be par for the course with AF drinks as a few bottles of Becks or Peroni alcohol free offerings generally leave me feeling jade too.

Anyone else getting alcohol free hangovers? I'm not a big drinker any more, I can go weeks without alcohol passing my lips and most times when it does it's a couple of pints, four at the most so my tolerance has dropped considerably but even then I feel worse after four pints of AF than I do from the regular pints.
There's stuff produced in brewing/wine making besides the alcohol called congeners. These can make you feel bad and some things like red wine have more in than others iirc. They contribute to the different tastes. Some are quite :( like aldehydes. So, even if they take the alcohol out there may be things left that give you a bad head/guts. So, 'hangover' without even the pleasure of getting squiffy.

Not sure I ever get a sugar hangover - I'm a functioning sugarholic.

Possibly that then. Apart from Guinness Zero, all other AF beer tastes rank.

I'd debate the "functioning" part of that statement....

It is here.
At the same price as normal.

Apparently the landlords ain't happy with Diageo for pushing them to sell it, as they'd rather fleece the non drinkers with overpriced soft drinks.

Just one swig of Budweiser horse piss gives me an instant headache. Fine with Miller, not sure what the difference is.

Have never had a AF beer as i dont see the point. If i'm driving i will just have one proper pint (maybe 2 if im eating) then go on the cokes or orange and lemonades.

I get killer hangovers from some ciders but not others. Blackthorn gives me killer hangovers but things like Westons organic does not, i am a big advocate for the still organic ciders as i can bosh about 8 pints down and not feel too bad the next day, ok so i will have a bit of a hangover but not be totally hanging and unable to attend whatever activity i have planned for the next day.

I can do 20 units of the organic stuff and still get up for work at 6.30am, if i drank 20 units of something crappy like thatchers gold, blackthorn, strongbow etc i would be hanging to fuck, just shows how much shit is in that stuff.

I find anything with a head that has a slight red tinge to it is the shit stuff, thatchers gold from cans and magners from bottles have this red hue to the head, check it out next time you have one, full of chemicals that twist your melon man - and probably your insides too!

I gave up drinking 18 months ago due to the incredible headaches I got from some beers. I still get the same headaches with some AF beers
Must be those pesky congeners
