Friday: School Eucharist at the church, first service of the year and prefects and head boy/girl and deputies get their badges. Really excellent choices by the school of very sound students. Then a ministry meeting, lots of emails being sent, sorting out wedding stuff and feeding my daughter. Spent afternoon cooking dinner (slow cook chicken curry).

Saturday: take son to breakfast and then head to the church for Saturday morning coffee! Wedding at 4pm, I have a curate coming to learn how to marry people. The couple live local and their little daughter goes to one of my church schools. She is a lovely thing and is so excited to be the flower girl!

Sunday: Two simple First Sunday Services. Using a new liturgy to get some excitement going for the children/young families. Home for a late lunch.

Today: Woke up in a hotel in Stratford, did a Teams interview (went well, follow-on one to happen next week), headed over Regent's Park way for a client presentation, few g&ts with work folk, train home.

Sat: dad coming over to swap the boot struts on mum's car, walk the dog, plant some trees the f-i-l bought us last weekend, then I'll begrudgingly get some urgent work done ready for next week. Might reward myself with a spin on the bike too as it looks dry.

Alternatively, if dad hangs around, I might dismantle the log splitter to remove the snapped stud, and give it an oil change/service.
Prizes available if anybody knows where I put the new studs that I bought six months ago...

Sun: swimming, working, if I've avoided it on Saturday (likely), moving stuff around ready for future DIY.

Got to go to the woodyard and order some decking and 4x4s and that's about it.
Well my weekend just brightened up! My daughter is going to look at a a car this morning and hopefully buy it. She was going to pop in and show it to us if they bought it. Turns out we misread what she said and she is coming to us for the day regardless of whether they buy the car or not. So I'm off to get some food for ninja bbq and some fizz for my girlie!

Tomorrow, more DIY, this weekend is removing the last of the wallpaper, patching up ready for reinstalling skirting boards and replacement picture rails, sanding, undercoating and hopefully glossing those, mist coats on walls ready to fill / sand ready for topcoat.

Sunday, daughter, her fiancé and other daughter’s boyfriend are taking part in the Great North Run, so depend on their POV, I may head down to watch for a while and try to spot them among 60,000 other runners or I may simply continue with DIY.

If anyone is feeling generous, my daughter’s charity choice can be supported here: https://ajbellgreatnorthrun2025.enthuse ... BmIUkTFjug

Well, that didn’t happen as planned

Saturday was a wipe out as my Brian decided to have an off day and I spent the day doom scrolling rather than doing anything productive. Thankfully these days are few and far between but it cements the view that depression isn't a war you win. It's a battle you fight every day.

Sunday, I spent the day at the Great North Run in the company of my (first) ex wife cheering the participants on. Deep joy! :D

Both daughters (one was a late entrant) and their partners completed it with the following times:

SIL1 : 1:51:36
SIL2 : 2:10:36
D2 : 2:50:53
D1 : 2:53:03

SIL1 is a keen footballer and cricketer and constantly on the go, he beat the daughters’ 18 year old fitness freak half brother by over 10 mins and is 10 years his senior. Had they all not been so knackered, there’d have been a fair amount of banter flying around :D

Hopefully I’ll get my brain engaged appropriately this weekend!
