My old (independently owned) BMW dealer had a café and a lot of people used to drop in for a bacon butty and a brew. People would get to browse new stock and they had a sale rail of clothing next to it from which I bought loads of stuff. :D

They organised ride-outs and trips to the annual BMW bash in Germany + evening talks on stuff ranging from 'how to use the puncture repair kit' (and have a go at it) to 'an evening with Charlie Boorman'. Got to know a few people and some of us did France trips.

Pretty sure it all built dealer loyalty and helped shift a lot of bikes too.

Got taken over by a corporate BMW chain (same bunch as Guildford and Park Lane iirc). Closed the café, stopped all the social stuff....business dropped...shut down...became a s/h car dealership. :(

Surely you should blame the previous owner who cashed out as much a BMW?

Or perhaps despite all that ^^^, they never made any money and had no choice?

Didn't get to know all the details but I don't think BMW left him with much choice*. I think it was either sell or change bike brand. Then it looks like the new operation shut up shop and merged with the Guildford business (which used to be in a unit next to the BMW car dealership and now looks like it's in a corner of the car dealership although I haven't been inside since that change. I think RB uses them though).

* It may be that the corporate Motorrad lot thought it was cannibalising sales from Guildford - too successful maybe. :)

I am absolutely not a Cruiser type at all...

That new Scout 101 though!!! I could be persuaded in the future... Potentially!

You can spend the shitty weather days getting to work on the headers with the Solvol... I'd soon have then looking like the stainless Muzzy on the ZRX...

Not looking too shabby for a 24yo pipe...
