Given that he fasts for 1 - 2 days before a challenge and restricts his intake to 1500 calories on a normal day he probably consumes less than the average joe on the street.
Unfortunately the average Joe on the street doesn't but will still go for the 'Belly-buster special' in the local cafe trying to emulate his daring-do. Just look at the number of morbidly obese people wandering around (usually in gymwear that has never seen the inside off a gym, but that's another story). What does it say about society when people apparently idolise individuals who attempt to shove as much food into themselves for the perverse viewing pleasure of others? Personally, I find that nauseating and offensive to watch.
Granted, maybe watching somebody eat a sensible bowl of low-fat yogurt with some blueberries doesn't have the pull factor of that fella, but I'm amazed at what passes for entertainment these days.

Don't ask me, I don't get it either, and watching eating challenges is way way way down on my list of things that are considered entertainment.

Now if you'll excuse me it's lunch time and I've got another boring ass shitty chicken salad to knock off

I made a stock for a big pot of vegetable soup last night. Tasty stuff for lunch ,then freeze the rest for later. 8-)

I take that back, I forgot I had some chicken thighs I BBQ'd at the weekend which were très tasty, but I must remember to stock up on some rubs

I've been following someone on FB that talks good food - cooking proper food that is healthy and helps the body. Using everything basically. So I now have a massive instant pot of beef and beef heart stew on the go topped off with a lot of vegetables in it.

And on the side in a smaller instant pot, the bones from the beef (jarret of beef its called here) in with the scrapings of the veggies and some of the sinew that I cut off the meat to make a bone broth/stock type thing (can't quite bring myself to drink bone broth despite it being very healthy so am making more of a stock) - I'll then freeze it because I'll use it to make soups n stuff another day

I know I feel better for eating "proper" home cooked food (no additives or chemicals) but sometimes I run out of energy to cook, so need to do a decent batch cook at least once a month

Now (well later) I have a load of potatoes to cook and freeze, carrots similar, and a LOT of white cabbage to deal with

Church service in the morning, then lunch with daughter. Out to the Diocesan offices to get some admin (Faculties) sorted and to fess up to some work I had done (not illegal, just not cast iron thousands of pounds guttering instead of the plastic stuff which just works). Then sorted my DBS records, advised them on mechanical keyboards as they kill normal ones. Straight home in teeming rainfall, flooded roads and very messy conditions. On the bike straight to the hospital to give Last Rites to my dear parishioner. She was in agony due to sepsis and it took 45 minutes for the nurse to come and give pain relief. The family were deeply distressed. I don't think she will last the night. Prayed with then, anointed her and read psalms and scripture while she slipped into a deeper sleep. Back home and cooked dinner after collecting the wife's vinted parcel (which was huge!) and just managed to keep in on the bike.

I was quietly reflecting on your post. It would be easy to think 'another day in the office' or 'a day in the life of a priest'. But it struck me that to be able to give comfort to those in need is a special gift. Regardless of our differing beliefs, I'm in awe.

Apart from folk like teachers, nurses, firemen etc none of really had useful or important jobs.

Ignoring your beliefs, some folk have a true vocation to help others. Most of us just wanted a wage at the end of the month.

Well that's 26 years of my life wasted then.

Photo's are unpleasant and of a medical nature, don't look if you're squeamish or eating, but these are what come across my desk and in part what my job aims to prevent.

I've just watched the first series of small prophets. Other than being really enjoyable, it's full of hidden gems. One of the characters talks about a TV show where celebrities have to scrape barrels. Sums up TV and celebrities perfectly. Your average TV watcher will watch anything. Celebrity watching paint dry anyone?

One of the most popular shows on C4* involves people watching other people watch telly. Go figure.

*This is the same C4 that was legally mandated to " to be a disruptive, innovative, and experimental alternative to ITV and the BBC. It was tasked with serving minority interests, catering to tastes not represented by mainstream channels, providing educational content, and fostering a new, independent production sector."
I don't know if the dumbing down of television leads to lower quality programming or vice versa. Maybe it ain't worth making decent stuff anymore due to the wider options available for viewing or people's habits are changing in terms of ability to sit and watch something without scrolling through their phone.

I’ve dusted some diced up chicken breast with various rubs:

Angus & Oink Satay
Cape herb & spice Caribbean Jerk seasoning
Cape herb & spice Texas BBQ

Assuming I can be arsed, I’ll fire up the Ninja wood fire tonight and smoke / grill them to use as fillings for pittas / kebabs

I also started dry brining a lump of chuck tender / mock tenderloin which I’m not holding out much hope for as it is very lean and notoriously a tough cut of beef. I’m hoping a low and slow smoking with Texas BBQ rub, spritzing regularly and wrapping up and finishing to a high internal temp will tenderise it sufficiently to enjoy, that’s a plan for another day though. I’ve got a load more in the freezer which will end up being braised and pie filling if this experiment doesn’t work out.

So far I've made -

Brownies with dried cranberries in them

A loaf of granary bread (didn't come out of the tin very well, so not sure it's gonna slice well - tastes awesome so will probably have it with my stew at lunches this week!)

Shortbread

Cheese scones

Waiting to bake - heart biscuits for the airport tomorrow!! They're in the fridge waiting, got to wait about 30 mins to be able to slice them ready to cook

I made yesterday and portioned for the freezer today -

Beef shin and heart stew, loaded with veg too. Very lovely, some for tonight (well in about 30 mins) and the rest for lunches to come

Beef broth/stock - frozen into blocks so I can use as gravy or as a stock for anything else!

Also had to shop twice (damn good job I live so close to shops nowadays!) - forgot milk the first time   I don't use a lot and haven't made scones for so long it wasn't on my list

Failed to make spring rolls, char sui pork and some actual bone broth for drinking; but I do have all the ingredients now so if I get a long pause on Monday I can try and summon the enthusiasm

Oh, also didn't make the sauerkraut - hope the cabbage lasts till whenever I summon the enthusiasm!!

+ Management Consultants and Marketing Executives.

However, the bunch that stayed behind died out as a result of a virulent disease contracted from unsanitised telephones - rather than the threatened mutant goat.

(I did work at one place that had someone that regularly cleaned all the phones....and I didn't die of a virulent disease. So, I conclude, phone sanitisers are very useful. ).
