Zilch this month. My luck is a disease.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

Re: premium bonds.
Probably about time i lobbed some money into this as even a 25 quid win a year would earn more than is in a 5 figure savings account over a few years at the moment

Re: premium bonds.
Between 27 and 28k holding during 2021(£100 a month goes in and any winnings are reinvested)... won 2x £25 in the whole of 2021.
It's a pretty shit %, BUT (big but), there's always that 'chance' you'll win one of the big prizes. There's no chance of your savings account magically giving you 5,000-1,000,000 squids.
It's 'free' gambling.

One could be forgiven for thinking thats a ploy deliberately put in place to make people buy premium bonds...

I said free, but I guess the cost is the difference between whatever you win and the interest it would have made in another type of investment.

Re: premium bonds.
Yeah exactly - you can get a savings account with a better rate than the average premium bonds return, even today. I've got one which is doing 0.5% but only if I don't withdraw for a year. If I'm prepared to not withdraw for 3 years I can get more than twice that. A whopping 1.3%KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 8:28 am I said free, but I guess the cost is the difference between whatever you win and the interest it would have made in another type of investment.
If you're prepared to invest you can get way waaaay more - but obviously you might lose it too.
Premium bonds have always offered "the chance" as a way of competing with high street rates.

Re: premium bonds.
I don't have any premium bonds, they seem like a very inefficient way of making money.
OK, I get that a £25 or £50 'windfall' now and again is a big thing for someone in the UK nowadays but it's hardly an incentive to lock away 30k or more, isit.
The economy here in Turkey is shot, Recep has lost the plot completely and inflation is runninv at 26% +. People are suffering now with prices rising every week. I'm protected to some extent as the £/TL exchange rate is good, hovering aroumd 18 Tl to the £.
I've transferred cash out of the UK and into a time deposit account at (this month) 15% apr. I'll renegotiate end of next week, I suspect I'll get 16%. This is despite Recep saying he's happy to cut interest rates to 4 or 5%. At a push I can always buy £ or $.
Makes 0.7% look a bit inadequate.

Re: premium bonds.
Inflation 26%, interest rate 16% - So you are only losing 10% on your deposits?
Makes 0.7% look attractive

Re: premium bonds.
I know what you're saying but I'm lucky that right now I'm spending very little. Fruit and veg at the Monday market is only a little more expensive ( certainly not 26% higher than even a year ago) and while electricity is getting a big hike ghis month, I'm using less these days than I've ever done.
People are suffering but I'm not one of ghem.

Not checked yet. I'm going to wait to see if I get a notification, whilst dreaming of spending money I probably haven''t won.

£25 for the missus too, so £50 I'm total. All getting drawn out soon as paying off the mortgage on our BTL house

I always wait for the email too. If the money is won, a couple of days won't matter much and it's two or three days of thinking what I'll do with it.
Not expecting anything this month. 3 in a row, even £25s, are a bit unlikely.

You have the same odds each draw. Ernie doesn't know you won last time.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 9:46 amI always wait for the email too. If the money is won, a couple of days won't matter much and it's two or three days of thinking what I'll do with it.

True. But I'll bet you £25 that I don't get 3 in a row.slowsider wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 10:22 amYou have the same odds each draw.
