Probably about time i lobbed some money into this as even a 25 quid win a year would earn more than is in a 5 figure savings account over a few years at the moment

Between 27 and 28k holding during 2021(£100 a month goes in and any winnings are reinvested)... won 2x £25 in the whole of 2021.

It's a pretty shit %, BUT (big but), there's always that 'chance' you'll win one of the big prizes. There's no chance of your savings account magically giving you 5,000-1,000,000 squids.

It's 'free' gambling.

Yeah exactly - you can get a savings account with a better rate than the average premium bonds return, even today. I've got one which is doing 0.5% but only if I don't withdraw for a year. If I'm prepared to not withdraw for 3 years I can get more than twice that. A whopping 1.3%

If you're prepared to invest you can get way waaaay more - but obviously you might lose it too.

Premium bonds have always offered "the chance" as a way of competing with high street rates.

I don't have any premium bonds, they seem like a very inefficient way of making money.

OK, I get that a £25 or £50 'windfall' now and again is a big thing for someone in the UK nowadays but it's hardly an incentive to lock away 30k or more, isit.

The economy here in Turkey is shot, Recep has lost the plot completely and inflation is runninv at 26% +. People are suffering now with prices rising every week. I'm protected to some extent as the £/TL exchange rate is good, hovering aroumd 18 Tl to the £.

I've transferred cash out of the UK and into a time deposit account at (this month) 15% apr. I'll renegotiate end of next week, I suspect I'll get 16%. This is despite Recep saying he's happy to cut interest rates to 4 or 5%. At a push I can always buy £ or $.

Makes 0.7% look a bit inadequate.

I know what you're saying but I'm lucky that right now I'm spending very little. Fruit and veg at the Monday market is only a little more expensive ( certainly not 26% higher than even a year ago) and while electricity is getting a big hike ghis month, I'm using less these days than I've ever done.

People are suffering but I'm not one of ghem.
