Fish and chips shops heaving but found a deli serving a decent sarnie and a pint of Ghost Ship. Magic.

Think I'm gonna sack the Tutoro. On the absolute lowest setting it still flings onto the business end of the tyre yet doesn't seem to effectively lube the inner of the chain despite feeding onto the rear sprocket.

I used a Scottoiler for years on many bikes and always thought they were a great job. I seldom do more than a couple of hundred miles in one go now,so I just clean and oil the chain regularly.

I don't know about the latest generation of oilers,but I wouldn't be happy with what I see there. Maybe the original is the best?

Yup that's what I used to do and will go back to. So paraffin will be out the weekend for a good clean and some Castrol racing lube.

The chain did look good till it went to Jim Aim and they lubed it with what looked like tar!! Last couple of rides have been really dusty so it now looks reet manky. As I've been testing the Tutoro to see if I'm keeping it I haven't cleaned it as had hoped the wet lube would make cleaning easier to. Naughty boy.

Other people seem to get good results with the Tutoro but set about 1/10 open (recommended is half open) it flings onto the treaded part of the tyre within half hour but isn't wet enough to get to the inner. Odd. Either way not happy with oil on my tyre, its only small amounts but oil and tyres aren't a good mix.

For a casual rider like me, I'm happy with wd40 wax and a paraffin clean now and again. Maybe the oil isn't liking the JA lube. I'd clean it a watch it again. These thing's should work.

Maybe there's different oil's you could try.

I do have a while bottle of Scott oil as well, maybe I should try that and drain the tutoro stuff out

Also noticed the nozzle has move to the chain rather than the sprocket so maybe it's only getting on the chain outer rather than the sprocket

Looks like your oils reaching your chain okay, just not spreading? Too thick an oil? The more obvious solution would be to fit a twin feed nozzle but it seems tutoro dont have any in stock? Worth cobbling on a scottoiler one?

Scottoiler do 2 different oils too, a warm weather and a cool weather - very different viscosity.

I'll double check once home but from memory blue is standard and the red is for warmer conditions.

I have blue Scott oil. And I think the standard Tutoro oil, they do a warmer weather one for temps over 25c I think, but considering I've only ridden once this year in 25c temps I'd hope it's not that. I never changed the oil in my scottoiler as well, always ran the blue on the Firestorm without issue. Although I'd be peeved if the thicker oil was too thick to spread but thin enough to fling on my tyre with ease!

I had meant to wash mine and clean the chain today, but spent yesterday helping a mate clean 3 motorbikes and can't be arsed to do mine now

Took the bike out for an evening run yesterday. I don't like riding much when its hot and tend to prefer mornings but not had a chance recently with days out with the family/work etc. So went out about 6.30 last night for a nice local loop. Not done an evening ride in a while and always find the time of day lends a different perspective on roads you know. Light, shadows, smell are all different to my usual early mornings. I fancied a bit of a tear up but found in the first few minutes it wasn't happening, just one of those times where things aren't quiet gelling as they should, my lines were off, my braking was wrong and I was accelerating harder to try and make it all up and the harder I tried the worse it got. So instead of getting it wrong I settled for a fast-ish pace and relaxed rather than go attack mode. The benefit of experience I guess. It it's not happening don't do it rather than end up in a tangle.

The roads were nice and clear in the main too. I expected to catch a little of the end of rush hour locally but on the B-roads it was nice and empty apart from the usual spots. The B1051 to Thaxted was a joy as always, such a great selection of twists/turns, ups and downs. I did think about popping to a nice pub garden in Thaxted but wasn't ready to stop yet. Instead of heading to the Barfields/Finchingfield way I turned up the Thaxted/Saffron Walden road. I don't usually go this way as it's more fast and open, and also more populated by Sportsbikes when I normally go out doing proper speeds so I tend to avoid it as it's a police magnet. But last night it was great and suited my mood and I got a nice flow on just concentrating on my lines and enjoying the feel of the bike.

Saffron Walden was empty by that time and past Audley end I got some air over the hump back bridge Then on to the B1039 past Wendens Ambo a road which I absolutely love, it's about 8 miles of cracking B road and I didn't catch a single car on my run. Perfect. Turning onto the London Rd old A10 at Barley I thought about stopping at a pub when I remembered I was passing my mates house in Buntingford. Seemed a good opportunity to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Turned out he was in the social club so stopped there for a quick pint and a chin wag. Left just before 9 and a straight shlep down the A10 back to Herford and managed to catch 1 of the kids before they were asleep Put the bike away after a quick Mr Sheen on the front to get the worst of the flies off, dusk really is a bugger for the little blighters.

I noticed when I filled up with petrol that I was likely to click over to 13k on this ride, so stuck it on total odo and watched the count up. As it hit 13k exactly on the A10 I gave the tank a little pat and a thanks. Over the last couple of months I've had a bit of a downer on the little Duke. Driven by a) me feeling like I fancy a change and b) that being the worse time to have to shell out a load of money of servicing/replacing parts. But the ride to Southwold the other week and last night have me feeling the love again for the little fella. I'd like something a bit less focused with a little more power, but honestly for most of the time the Duke still works for me and it's been a great bike for the last 5 years 13k.

I've also found that I miss having a destination or purpose to my ride. Meeting the lads at On Yer Bike in April was Ace, as was Southwold and last night stopping to see my mate. Last Fri a few of us went to a mates for a postponed drink/pizza catch up in his garden. I nearly took the car Then thought 'you dope' and stuck the beer in the top box and strapped a sleeping back on the rear seat, much better. It was only an hours ride to High Wycombe but riding makes it so much better. I've realised over the last year of riding in circles I miss having a purpose to the ride, so it's back to going somewhere or seeing someone or doing something as much as possible

On the chain front I washed the bike the other week and gave the chain a good going over with paraffin. Once all dried off I gave it a good lube with Castrol racing lube. Much better. I will re-try the Tutoro as I've moved the nozzle slightly but wanted to know it was clean and lubbed correctly for the last couple of rides.

Anyway here's a rough-ish route of yesterdays ride.

Had a few cracking rides recently. Last week I went for a solo ride to the pub for a non alcoholic pint. There's a really nice pub about 12 miles north of me but TomTom makes it about 20 miles, although some are barely roads! Pics in the where did you ride last thread.

Then Sunday had my first early morning run for a while. Decided to do my old loop that I haven't done in ages. I fancied a nice blast on roads that I knew so I could hoon a bit. So left before 8am and ran Hertford - Much Hadem, Stansted Mountfitchet, Thaxted, Finchingfield, Sible Hedingham, Clare, Stadishall. Stopped at the cafe for a big bacon/sausage bap and a coffee. Fair few bikes in and chatted to the owner of a GSXS Thou as still on the possible list. Then back home via Haverhill - Steeple Bumstead, Saffron Waldon, Buntingford and home. Really nice ride and decent weather too.

Last night I met up with my mate on his newly repaired Street Triple following his off on his 3rd ride back in April on my way to meet Weeksy. We met up in Sarrat and then had a run out to Ivinghoe for a pub dinner. Matey lead which I was happy with but then I ended up at the front as was trying to find a pub. Hated it Don't mind leading normally but not after last night. Didn't want to ride too fast but also not ride too slowly either. Nice catch up and then a quicker run home as we split at the pub. He made it home safe too

Next up meeting up with my brother and a couple of his mates at South Mimms for a run up to Krazy Horse in Bury St Eds for lunch. I know and trust all the riders and everyone is of a speed, so looking forward to a nice paced ride out in the sun

Met up in Hatfield this morning at 10.15. My brother on his Z750 and his mate on a Blackbird. Splash of fuel then down to South Mimms services to pick up my brothers other mate on a 990SMT. We then ended up riding back through Hertford so I could have saved myself 24 miles and nearly an hour!

From there sat nav was set for Krazy Horse and what followed was a right royal hoon through the twisties Had a decent breakfast bap and a cold drink or 3 for lunch and looked at all the expensive exotica. Seems them Fantics are popular as looked like a few people were picking up their new ones.

We then headed back home via even more twisties Jacket vents not so effective on the way back as the air was proper warm by then.

Eventually got home around 5pm and 150 miles later. Nice. No pics I'm afraid as it was too warm to wanna stop and a pic of 4 fat gits eating wouldn't be good either.

I love summer.

Next up is a weekend away to see another of my brother's mates who moved to Macclesfield, looks like that'll be 150 miles of twisties too

Looking at the weekend weather forecast I don't think I'll be joining the ride up to Macclesfield! My brother and his mate are still going but the thought of a 5 hour+ ride in mostly rain doesn't appeal. Esp as the ride home I'll be on my jones so the temptation will be to just hoof it back on the motorway which is pants at the best of times on the Duke let alone with rain showers all day. Shame as I was looking forward to it.

Not ridden in almost 3 weeks since the Krazy Horse ride due to a combination of other stuff and weather....mainly weather, which has been utterly pants for summer. But managed to pop out yesterday. Was just going to go for a quick 40 min spin, but once out I was enjoying myself so ended up doing 50 odd miles. If there is a dry spell this weekend will try and get out too, but doesn't look like it.

Worse case I'll clean/lube the chain and might give the brakes a clean up. Noticed when I was out yesterday the brakes felt a bit spongy and they could probably use a decent clean up.

Yup, the weather certainly isn't friendly at the moment !
