Dropped the ST at the dealers to sort an oil leak.

I was thinking what would I have done years ago. I'd have tried to get home and when I ran out i'd have had to leave the bike and go find a phone box to call for help. No such thing as phone boxes now though.Yorick wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 5:42 pmLiving on the edge brotherTaipan wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 5:40 pm Got on the bike and teh low fuel warning was on, so I knew I wasn't making it home! Gentle bimble to the texaco garage on The Highway where £3 got me over 2 litres and it put me 2 bars on the fuel gauge. Made it home just as it went to 1 bar. Phone collected and tanked brimmed ready for next Wednesday. Phew!![]()

Years ago you would have shrugged, ridden to the nearest petrol station and got your wallet out.Taipan wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 6:00 pmI was thinking what would I have done years ago. I keep emergency notes in my phone case. In this scenario, that wouldn't help at allgremlin wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 12:36 pm Keeping a tenner under the seat, or in a side pocket of your jacket, can be a really good idea.
Ditto hiding a front door key somewhere near your gaff.
S'all I'm saying.
Holey sheet! GWS Grumble!Sunny wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 7:15 pm Anyway, today I found out that my dog has been shot
Not recently I hasten to add, but there's apparently something metallic in his front right chest, like a BB pellet. It's apparently really clear on the full body CT scan that he had today, the vet will show me tomorrow.
He was a rescue, having been a stray/street dog in Croatia for the first two years of his life, so presumably that's when the shot happened. Bastards. No wonder he's bloody terrified of gunshots/bird scarers/fireworks.
(He's been in and out of the vets all week, trying to work out what's up with him - hence the CT scan.)

I think your missing what I was saying about back in't day when there were no mobile phones and I carried a wallet, which I don't now. FWIW, we do have ID cards, but I have special access rights to my building so dont need to carry mine.Count Steer wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 8:48 pm...and your phone...and the emergency tenner in your sock.Taipan wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 8:42 pmNot if I'd forgotten it...Count Steer wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 6:30 pm

I assume you need ID to get into your place of work? Is that on your phone?...
Not really Pietin, I carry a phone but I also carry a wallet as it has quite a few things besides money that can be useful. I advocate against 'single point of failure' existence.Taipan wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 8:56 pmI think your missing what I was saying about back in't day when there were no mobile phones and I carried a wallet, which I don't now. What did you swap them for?ZRX61 wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 9:08 pm Dropped by the airfield for a few gallons of the good stuff. Was recognized while there & promptly got a phone call to swap the wings on a Cessna 337. Bugger.
I do use apple pay, but I have a Vena wallet case on my phone which (discretely) houses my debit/ID cards etc. I thought I'd miss a wallet, but I dont as its one less thing to carry. Its only when I wear a suit (very rare) I miss carrying my Dads old fashioned, full sized wallet that carries unfolded bank notes.Count Steer wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 9:15 pmNot really Pietin, I carry a phone but I also carry a wallet as it has quite a few things besides money that can be useful. I assume you need ID to get into your place of work? Is that on your phone?...'Oh noes, my phone battery is flat/I have sat on it etc...I am bereft'. (Besides which I don't use my phone to pay things* and am still flat earth enough to have actual membership cards etc).

I take it the surgery was a success?Pirahna wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:12 am I've been to the hospital for another dressing change on last week's hand surgery.
The surgeon was unable to stitch up afterwards, she said the finger was bending back. So it's an unstitched cut which doesn't look particularly pleasant, it still smarts a bit too.
