There were wars (hot and cold) when I was 21 and the financial shit was at least as bad as now.

Re: pensions
Fortunately I was a couple of years too young for conscription, but there were indeed hot wars too. Mate was conscripted and sent to (I think) Malaya to patrol the jungle. The National Service patrol was the bait, the real patrol was the Gurkha one that went parallel to them to ambush the ambushers He came back with a massive scar from his shoulder to his bum where whoever took a swipe at him with a panga, which was not a huge amount of fun.JackyJoll wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 9:58 amDodgy knees wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 6:55 am But would you want to be 21 again in these uncertain times.

Re: pensions
In line with (state) pension age going up in line with life expectancy going up (not sure that's true any more)? Probably want to keep a 10 year income period so people can make up what they take out.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 7:40 pm I've just read that from 2028 you can't access your pension until your 57, instead of 55.
I think this change was mentioned much earlier in the thread.

Re: pensions
Church pension kicks in at 68, charity pension at 67 and state pension at whenever the current government decide you will use the least of it available.
Charity pension has taken a beating with recent market upheaval, but this is the long haul, so things should eventually improve and even out again. I will be making voluntary contribution to the church pension as those will be paid back tax free and give us a small cash boost in those years to come.

He gave us brains to use and prudence to exercise. My long term benefits are truly out of this world though, but I still have the sense and shrewd sense of acumen to ensure a degree of comfort in this stage of life. That is not a Biblical quote. For it is by grace we are saved, no works or strivings of ours can add an hour to our lives or save our souls.slowsider wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:47 pmBlessed are the cheesemakers.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:37 pmThe Lord helps those who help themselves.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:18 pm Surely you can rely on God to provide whatever you need?
Cheesemakers, yes, very blessed, especially good ones!

I never heard it called that before.the real Bible, in God dialect wrote: 11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

Re: pensions
God loves you.
But he created hell just in case you don't love him back.
I think I preferred the ancient greek gods. At least they were upfront about their capriciousness.
