Fortunately I was a couple of years too young for conscription, but there were indeed hot wars too. Mate was conscripted and sent to (I think) Malaya to patrol the jungle. The National Service patrol was the bait, the real patrol was the Gurkha one that went parallel to them to ambush the ambushers He came back with a massive scar from his shoulder to his bum where whoever took a swipe at him with a panga, which was not a huge amount of fun.

I've just read that from 2028 you can't access your pension until your 57, instead of 55.

In line with (state) pension age going up in line with life expectancy going up (not sure that's true any more)? Probably want to keep a 10 year income period so people can make up what they take out.

I think this change was mentioned much earlier in the thread.

Church pension kicks in at 68, charity pension at 67 and state pension at whenever the current government decide you will use the least of it available.

Charity pension has taken a beating with recent market upheaval, but this is the long haul, so things should eventually improve and even out again. I will be making voluntary contribution to the church pension as those will be paid back tax free and give us a small cash boost in those years to come.
