I don't have to do that, but I also don't have to not do itKungFooBob wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:22 pmYou've missed his plan to wrap himself in tin foil and pretend to be bearded C3PO.Taipan wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:17 pmThey have no emotions. Re: Ideas for a small business?
I completely agree, running a cafe can be a real headache with all the regulations and health inspections. It’s a lot of work and the margins are often pretty slim. A garden centre sounds like a much more manageable option, especially if you can tap into local demand for flowers and plants. Funeral flowers and deliveries could definitely help boost income, but I can see how the costs could still add up quickly with a physical shop. It's tricky finding a balance between a good idea and the financial viability, especially with overhead costs spiraling.Scud wrote: Thu Feb 22, 2024 1:48 pm I think a cafe would be a right pain in the arse with food safety regs, we deal with councils just as non-food market traders, they are useless pains in the arse.
There’s big money in flowers and plants, maybe a small local garden centre style shop? You’d need to be doing local deliveries and funeral flowers too though, we’ve looked at opening a premises but the costs just spiral and I think you’d be needing more than £150/day. If you're looking for a way to earn some extra cash without such overhead, have you considered trying your luck on platforms like https://plinkogambling.org? It's a fun way to unwind and potentially boost your earnings with the best conditions for play.

I know a lad that does this, he was selling them on one of the markets we work. He supplies some local restaurants too. He recently got into supplying a couple of nice farm shops which are taking such a large amount he doesn’t have the stock to do the markets now.MyLittleStudPony wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:38 pm Growing gourmet mushrooms on a medium scale?

I believe he has them growing in a couple of shipping containers, not sure of the set up but must be fairly simple to sort.
Re: Ideas for a small business?
One practical small business idea that’s often overlooked is providing digital marketing services for professional niches that rely on trust and local visibility, like family law. Divorce and custody attorneys are constantly competing for attention in search results, but most of them don’t have a solid SEO strategy in place.
Helping them rank higher locally, improve their websites, or generate client leads can be turned into a lean and profitable service business. It’s not about reinventing the wheel, it’s about applying consistent, proven strategies in an industry where word-of-mouth and Google visibility drive almost all client growth.

If anyone is wondering, I think SEO is Search Engine Optimisation.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
