I'm going sourdough croque monsieur then I totally agree with the comments about bread. But sourdough toast is in another league man.

I would agree that a sealed up toasted sandwich (a "breville") is something different.

Key distinction for me is whether it's closed around the perimeter. It'd be like calling a Calzone a Pizza otherwise!

If we're venturing off piste onto toasties then we're into a whole different universe, I'd argue that a toastie is not strictly a sandwich, when John Montague wanted a snack he didn't ask for his new invention to be toasted. Otherwise you might as well include pop tarts, Findus crispy pancakes and all other manner of cooked snack.

I have to disagree, so long as it's two slices of bread with a filling, IMO opinion it's a sandwich, pop tarts are more like a fruit pie (I think, as I've never had one), crispy pancakes are a form of tortilla. Calling a Calzone a sandwich is like calling Pizza cheese and tomato on toast.

I went to look at an 888 honestly expecting to come home with it, but just sitting on it and taking it off the stand put me off, it felt incredibly heavy and unwieldy, it was a bit weird, the weight felt low down but really cumbersome with it. When I put it back on the side stand it leaned over quite far and I was worried that the stand wouldn't take the weight, it felt that bad.

It depends if it was the 888 Strada or an 888 SP. The Stradas are a fair bit heavier than the SP models, as the SP is pure race rep; no passenger, lightweight alloy subframe, significantly more power etc. Don't bother with a Strada, the SP is the one to go for.

The sidestand on some of the 851/888 models has a 'safety' feature that automatically flicks up the side stand when you lift it up, so you can't ride away with the stand down. After complaints from angry owners who'd crunched expensive plastics etc. by lifting bikes off the sidestand and then putting the bike back onto an absent stand, this 'feature' was dropped. The stand does work, but doesn't really inspire confidence, I grant you.

Yes, agree. The classic bike market still has a way to fall, and the holdouts will look even sillier in a year's time. Just prior to Covid I'd made the decision to sell my 888 SP3, but it needed a number of things doing as it's been only very lightly used in the last 10 years. I still haven't done those things, predictably, and missed out on the last wave of enthusiasm in the market. But I intend to get my arse in gear in the New Year so that it's ready to sell when we finally get out of this slump (whenever that might be).

It's slumped forever surely. The number of people who GAS is only gonna keep shrinking now. You'd need something really special to beat that trend?

Quite possibly so - but I really wouldn't know. They only made 500 of the SP3 model for homologation purposes (and some people reckon they didn't make the full amount anyway) - mine has a plaque on the headstock showing 269 of 500. The target market for them is small, but then it always has been and they normally sell to people who know what they want, not speculative purchasers. So the answer is - I dunno. If I can't sell it I've got one hell of a living room ornament...
