The fire travelled down the back of the hill to the south and the fire fighters were unable to stop it getting to the top houses in Amos. This photo was taken last night by a Turkish person. Amos is behind the burning hill, the next bay round the coast.
Yesterday I heard reports that Amos is 'gone'. Not sure what that means but I got the impression that it had reached and was consuming the houses in the bay. Pic from Amos yesterday.

Staying on red hasn't helped the mood either.
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

As the fires had subsided, even appeared to be out in Amos, I paddled round there this morning to have a look for myself. I was just getting round the corner and could see a couple of white houses (there's a mix of white, concrete and brick houses and stone houses in Amos) when the Coast Guard headed out of Amos bay. There was one of their smaller motor boats and a rib which appeared to be escorting a yacht away from the area. When they saw me the rib immediately came my way and told me I should turn round and head back to Turunç.
We all want to know how badly it was damaged, these are our friends and neighbours but I always want to see for myself so ll get round there tomorrow probably and have a look.

No trees near us. Apart from the palm trees which are all 10m apart.
Yebbut, you said no fires here!
Here in the town I live in
The fires up in Haria were sort of man made. It's a tradition to plant a tree for every newborn soon. So it's become "The Valley of A Thousand Palm Trees".
It looks cool, but can see how the fire took hold.

Watching about 20 swifts circling over the villa. Been here about am hour. I'm on the roof patio and it's a stunning scene.
Couple of years ago we were staying with friends in S France. Swifts were swooping and skimming over the pool to drink.

A couple of weeks there were about 60 or 70 all circling and swooping.
Tried to film but they're too, erm, swift
Quite a treat as we didn't get many in Bradford
We get Swifts here in the Summer, but this year the numbers seem diminished. Loads of House Martins, but Swallows are less in evidence.
I think of them all as little fighter pilots, superb aerobatics.
