Happy new bike day.... WTF, what do you mean it's a Yamaha ???

Post by weeksy »

Once again in a random turn of events i sat after Donington on Monday having had a blast i decided it was time to move on the KTM 690 Duke. Sure, it was great, it was fun and it was epic... but there's loads of bikes and loads of options to try.

The clear and obvious answer was "KTM 790" but you know what, we've been there, we've done that one, read the book, bought it, sold it and painted the world KTM orange....

So i sat and weighed up all the requirements. They were a short list to me.
1. Cool looking naked
2. 100bhp
3. Electronic toys

Several times in the past few years i've looked at these, almost considered them, then gone away from them, then back to them, then bought a KTM... so why the heck not.

I think it ticks all of my boxes and wants... (apart from being orange of course) and i'm excited about it.

Deposit paid to dealer this evening, not sure yet when the deal will complete but i'd expect early next week.

So what are you gonna bolt on to it first?

iirc most people recommend fork springs, but imho it's crying out for a pipe!

Shock seems a prime candidate and SNAFU over in TRC added some oil in front end to sort his forks.

Out of interest, did you consider the Triumph Street Triple (R)?

I've read a few reviews that say the Trumpet handles best, but the Yamaha lump is the better engine.

No mate they're wee and nesh as someone on TRC once said. I don't like the triumph much.

I love the retro looks of the xsr. I'd have bought Nidges over the Speed Triple.

Tail tidy & lights first, not that it won't be sold before they're delivered mind.

Like it, really like it.

But I'm not sure it's 'a keeper'. It'll certainly be very different from the KTM.
