Re: eMTB recommendations
My new bike is an Orbea wild FS H@0, list price was £4299, I got it for £3600. There’s no other bike as good in that price range with a Bosch motor. Always aim for 15% discount if possible and buy from a local dealer in case back up is needed. I went to a small local place and asked if he could do the discount and still make himself some money so it was worthwhile. He thanked me for that and we did the deal.
Get 11 or 12 speed, run cheap chains and change two or three times a year, don’t change gear under load and they last well.

What do you do with your old ebikes? How/ where do you sell them (if you do?)? I have no real idea of how the 2nd hand market is, I was thinking of an upgrade but not sure what to do.Couchy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 16, 2020 7:42 pm My new bike is an Orbea wild FS H@0, list price was £4299, I got it for £3600. I’ve still got my old one, I really should sell it tbh. It’s a 2017 Scott e-genius with some nice upgrades and looking now I’d prob get £2k for it.Nordboy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 16, 2020 7:45 pmWhat do you do with your old ebikes? My first one was sold to a mate I ride with and he still uses it.

Re: eMTB recommendations
Now is a good time to sell a 2nd hand emtb. I've been looking out possible bikes for a couple of mates who I've brought to the dark side and prices that 2nd hand bikes are going for are verging on the ridiculous. I paid £2.8k for my bike, with a spare battery and a complete brand new 12sp drivetrain, from a shop in February and I've seen the exact the same bike, without the spare battery and on the original 8sp drivetrain, going for a grand more as a private sale on ebay in the last week....

All bikes are nuts in pricing, Couch should get his cleaned up, advertised and it would be sold in 24 hours.millemille wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:58 am Now is a good time to sell a 2nd hand emtb. Re: eMTB recommendations
Does the battery size matter in the real world? One of the bikes i'm looking at has 500 (somethings) and there are other bikes with 625 (somethings)

Re: eMTB recommendations
Does it matter? Like weeksy says the bigger the battery the greater the range BUT whether the extra range is needed is going to depend on where you're riding and how fit you are and how much you weigh and how much assistance you use.
For reference; riding in the High Peak of the Peak District on real gnarly stuff that's very up and down, weighing 16.5 stone, relatively fit (I used to ride the same on an Amish bike, just a lot slower and with a lot more pushing...), riding a 6" travel FS e-bike with fat and knobbly tyres and switching between Touring and EMTB with an occasional burst of Turbo on a gen 3 bosch bike I can comfortably get 25 miles out of a 500 battery.
If you're riding less steep and gnarly terrain and/or you're lighter and/or you're fitter and on a newer bike you'll get more and more range...

Re: eMTB recommendations
Battery size - what you require depends on how long you want to ride for, riding round flat Suffolk I get about 5 hours riding from a 500 battery, so form a 625 I'd expect to get 6 hours 15 minutes, but as the longest I'm likely to go for a ride for is 3 hours I'm happy with my 500 battery.

I think this is the best way to measure battery life tbh, I base my rides on being no more than about 3 hours of riding and my 500 battery is more than enough for that.Julian_Boolean wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 11:17 am Battery size - what you require depends on how long you want to ride for, riding round flat Suffolk I get about 5 hours riding from a 500 battery, so form a 625 I'd expect to get 6 hours 15 minutes, but as the longest I'm likely to go for a ride for is 3 hours I'm happy with my 500 battery.

Re: eMTB recommendations
As has been said, I wouldn’t worry about which battery you get. Go for the bike/ spec you want. I’ve only ever come close to using all my battery once and that was a 30 miler with a fair bit of climbing. Apart from that, 20+ milers leave me with two out of the five bars.

Re: eMTB recommendations
Maybe one of the new SL emtb versions? lighter smaller, slightly less powerful motors and batteries. They're sort of a performance/ handling emtb. Handle more like a normal mtb but with the benefit of battery assistance.

Re: eMTB recommendations
I think the fella is doing brilliantly and i don't think the terrain is holding him back enough that an Ebike is the answer. He doesn't live in the peaks, Scotland or the Lakes, or even Wales... He's knocking out rides at a good pace, losing weight i bet and feeling brilliant.... IMO, what he really wants is just a better bike than the one he has... engine, nah, he's got one alreadymillemille wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 3:46 pmif you'd like to step this way sir, there's some weaving looms over here that you'll really hate....

They look nice, they'd probably really suit my riding, but they are a bit spendy.Nordboy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 3:33 pm

I linked to the Levo previously and that was the specialized I was interested in (the £5k, not the Ferrari money one)Nordboy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 3:33 pmMaybe one of the new SL emtb versions? lighter smaller, slightly less powerful motors and batteries. Had a lovely ride today for 80% of it. Strava hasn't yet got the skills to identify bastard stinging nettle alleys and brambles, and a couple of the lanes were just floor to ceiling ouch.
I'm loving 'explore' on strava though. Set the distance and away and have fun. I'm not the fastest, but I can also say i'm not the fattest now either. There was a LOT of lifting the bike over styles today (at least a dozen times) and thankfully my bike isn't heavy.
The chain slipped a couple of times and didn't go into gear a couple of times. Assuming that's worn teeth or something. Not sure what I need to order there. Other than that, it's still probably tubeless and a dropper and i'd be happy happy happy
