If I didn't have the Big Red Bus, I'd be on that like a tramp on chips!

Good luck with the sale.

This beauty is now available for sale again- my brother Kev ( @2xtwins on here) bought it from Adam, the OP of this thread just about 12 months ago.
I think it was one of those spur-of-the-moment buys for him as he has a few other bikes, he trained it up to N Yorks and rode it back but the then downright scary front brakes put him off riding it and as a result its just sat in his garage gathering dust for the last 12 months until recently when I volunteered to sort it out and get it sold for him.

So, we got it over to my place and it's had the front calipers stripped, freed off, and rebuilt with new seals which has sorted the brake problem- it's also had new piston and seals in the front master cylinder for good measure.
It's also had the radiator removed, that and the complete cooling system flushed as I don't think it had ever been done in its life , and a couple of hoses replaced as part of that exercise
The (aging and battery draining ) alarm has also now been professionally removed by a specialist, it has a replacement battery, and a new MOT through to June 2023

I've done a few miles on it and now it has some brakes, it really is quite a fun thing for such a big old girl
The engine runs beautifully and still feels immense 30 years on and I'd have no hesitation in setting off on a trip around Europe or anywhere else

So £1295 ( or somewhere reasonably close) will get you what has to be one of the best value bikes out there, using HP per £ as the measure :)

Currently located back at Kev's place in Hampshire GU46, but if it makes it any easier for you, it could be viewed or collected from mine in HP27 Bucks.
Pics below- if any more info or pics you'd like, just let me or Kev know

That would be the perfect commuter bike for me.

I’m guessing the previous owner didn’t have the brakes rebuilt, someone telling porkies? 👀 or maybe made a cunt of them 🤪

The front brakes were never great from new. I went through gallons of brake fluid swopping m/c and stuff. Even when the calipers are in good order it's hard to get a good tight lever. I think I happened on it by accident and never touched the set up again.

It’s the bit about having to free them off that got me thinking they couldn’t have been rebuilt surely.

 That properly made me laugh- I think a politician needs to employ you as a speech writer, I don't really care which one or what party but I'd vote for them if you wrote their speeches and they delivered them exactly as you'd written

The answer is that he didn't really tell porkies as it had new-ish looking pads in it , liberally coated in copaslip, but 4 out of the 8 pistons were seized and obviously hadn't been out for a very long time, if ever- these Tokicos with the smaller bottom pistons are notorious for seized pistons and as @Skub says, the setup was never brilliant from brand new in terms of lever travel, but the seized pistons meant that the lever came back to the bar- it would still stop, but definitely scary on something this fast and heavy- they're sorted now, so as good as they are going to get without putting better quality pads and master cylinder on it, and in fairness, not bad at all now IMO

First port of call would be to change speed limits to 180 👀

I’ve rebuilt them and owned that brake set up over the years especially when the 6 pots came about which were also notoriously difficult to keep on top of.

Like I put if you’re going to advertise as rebuilt then at least take sure for definite that they have been. Make sure all pistons are free and as equally out, il fairly certain a quick look would have shown them as far from that.

Im heartened to see this re-appear, despite the imperfect front calliper refresh there was no intent to deceive as for making a cunt of it there were plenty of new cycle parts to recommend it and the engine is as tricky says as sweet as. I was sorry that twids fell out of love with it I have to say also that MY Original C1 never braked any better despite gallons of fluid. Its also very good value Not sure its had the Carb tops done so theres a potential extra 25 BHP available.

Well, RE the brakes, it doesn't matter how many times you bleed em if the pistons aren't free and those definitely weren't- my piston removal tool couldn't shift three of them but thankfully I've got a compressor and airline so with that and a fair bit of elbow grease and new seals etc, we got there in the end.
Anyway, all sorted now and the difference is night and day IMO ( and approx 2" less lever travel :) ) - and I sorted the tickover and lock-stop issues too

RE the extra 25hp, I had the carb tops off to check whilst I was going over it and they were already done so it's full power already

P.S. It wasn't @twids that bought it from you ;)

ISTR throwing away the dust seals in those calipers, then they were less prone to sticking. The crud used to gather between the main seals and the dust seals, then cause bother. It worked for me because I don't live in the desert, nor ride in Winter.

If I thought for one minute I could reach the right hand bar (and was working) I'd be really interested as I think that, because it's old, it might get past the power restrictions over here!!!
