Good Omens

I loved the book, but tbh, hated the series. I think that Pratchett's (and Gaiman's) writing is so fluid, that asking actors and directors to make it as fluid as it reads is a bit unfair, they just can't seem to do it. Maybe it's just the way it's cut, but no single scene ever flowed, they just were lots of cuts spliced together with too much empty space in between - it was like watching real-life stop-animation.

We started watching Jeremy's Farm on Amazon Prime last night. Its a documentary about Jeremy Clarkson's farm in the cotswolds, fronted by the man himself.

I know Clarkson can be polarising, but IMO his serious programmes are always good. The ones he did on Brunel or the Victoria Cross for example were excellent.

The farm programme has a few classically silly Clarkson moments - buying a massively overpowered and oversized Lamborghini tractor for example - but for the most part he plays it straight and genuine. You get the sense that he really "means it" and it's highly watchable.

I really enjoyed it, but took as a 'along the lines of' adaptation rather than strict copy.

Sadly, by the reviews (US, it's not available over her yet), you're going to absolutely detest The Watch, with a steampunk Vimes and all sorts of other changes.

FWIW, I'm just re-reading Pratchett's A Slip of the Keyboard, which tells some of the 'nuclear' stories he said no-one would believe.

The Kaleb kid is brilliant isn't he? "Went to London on an art trip once. Stayed on the coach. Too many people!". Clearly DGAS who ex public schoolboy Clarkson is, but the two of them obviously hit it off somehow.

He reminds me very much of one of the lads I lived with at Uni. Loughborough was the biggest town he'd countenance visiting, he went home at the weekends during lambing season, had his own tractor since 16 etc.

I binged watched the whole lot on the last 2 night shifts. I like Jezza, like his humour and style of acting, makes my larf!!
Although it has a serious point, the characters are excellent, worth a watch imho.

Did anyone else watch James May: Our Man in Japan, also on Prime?

I really liked that too. Clarkson and May are both pretty good at more serious documentaries when they drop the Top Gear banter bollox. They know how to make engaging TV which is light hearted without being vapid.

Solo Richard Hammond can fuck right off though.

It's an oldie (and I'm reasonably surprised to not have caught it before) but quite enjoying Homeland.
Didn't expect to find Damian Lewis's performance quite so wooden though - however the rest of the cast are generally pretty good.

Watched the first 2 episodes of 'Clarksons farm' on amazon prime. It's brilliant. He has to buy everything from scratch, starting with his Lamborghini tractor. The stone wall repair man had me in stitches. Definitely worth watching.

The Expanse.
At first I wasn't so sure but they seemed to put the effort in to get the gravity situation as good as it could be done.
Upto series five and as far as I'm concerned its just getting better.
Two standout characters are Amos and Avassarala.

Amos started out as a meathead enforcer and doesn't say much but still waters run deep with that one and Avasarala has been good all the way through.

Oh and its got spaceships in it, if thats not your thing I'm sure theres some Only Fools and Horses being repeated somewhere or other.

We are re-watching it in 4K and Dolby Atmos and it's bloody brilliant. The detail is A-MAZING. The physics for combat is very good and we love the characters. Avassarala's jewellery will bankrupt me as Mrs M has taken a shine to it and our next Staffie will either be Amos, Camina or Bobbi depending on temperament.
