This is Wilko - an example of me and Mrs Mango agreeing on something, but for different reasons. I fancied naming him after Wilko Johnson (ex-Dr Feelgood, Blockheads etc.), the wife thought it referred to Johnny Wilkinson, the famous england Rugby scrum-half.

Anyway, he's an Abyssinian/Somali cross and is a proper character. He'll also sleep pretty much anywhere, as is shown below.

Both noble reasons (I think Johnny was a No.10 but anyway)
I've had tickets to see Wilco Johnson since before the pandemic, I'm just hoping the bastard is still alive whenwe come out of the other side!
Seen hom loads of time before but always a good show.

Handsome cat by the way

Yeah, I was never that hot on Rugby positions, but as a largely non-interested observer I always rated Johnny for his work ethic and single-minded focus. And being an insanely good kicker of a rugby ball. Seemed like a genuine human being as well.

I've been a fan of Wilko's since the 70s when I saw Dr Feelgood. He's a true original all right. I saw him after his op at the Bearded Theory festival and he was magnificent. He also played Sheffield not long before lockdown and was just as good. I even got my photo taken with him at his book signing...

Meet knobhead, aka Boo or Brian as he answers to both

This is pretty much his default position nowdays as he is nearly 15, had a tumour at the end of last year and almost snuffed it but every now and again races up an down the garden flat out for about 7 laps then collapses

After not having a dog for a few years my wife recently upped the pester ratio to maximum.
We went over to Durham and got ourselves a pup.
Image
These are the parents, the father is a Dogue De Bordeaux Staffie cross and the mother is a German Shepard Saluki cross.
I've seen bigger dogs than the father but never seen a dog as solid in my life.
The woman selling the pups was nice, she'd got the dogs from a rescue place and we could see she cared for them well. The rest of the litter were coloured more like the parents and what I would call Brindle colour. If I hadn't seen the rest of the litter I'd struggle to believe the pup we got was from either one of its parents.
Anyway, to look at the pup (he's just 8 weeks old mind so will likely change a lot) we seem to have a big spotted Dalmation type dog. It's not visible on the photo but he has a decent length tail.
Anyway, here he is being held by my granddaughter. Currently called Gus as that was the name the seller gave him. So far I can't think of anything I like more.

I don't really have much idea what the hell he's going to look like fully grown but he's settling in well and even getting on with our cats so far. Seems a pleasant little chap.
If I average the heights and weights of the respective breeds out I get a figure of maybe 23 inches to the shoulder and about 30 Kilos weight, obviously genetics doesn't work exactly like that so I'll just be happy if he's got good health. So far that seems sorted.

We had booked the vet for Tuesday, thinking that the old boy was (quite literally) on his last legs...but he seems to have found a bit more lease of life so had a lovely day with him in the garden instead.
Days are very much numbered though. He's 14 and has been our first and very best dog. :)

Pup seems to be putting on about a kilo per week, on the15/06/21 he was 4.3 Kilos.
Today he's 7.3 (at 11 weeks old) so he's gaining weight nicely.
Also he's now got a name, after various efforts to find one* and my wife being being pretty lukewarm with them she started suggesting the round spot on his back looked like the moon?
That just wasn't working for me cos its too dark. Like the side away from the sun. Whatever thats called these days.
So, he's now called Floyd.

Seen here at just over ten weeks old and currently the cat is still the boss.

*The lass we got him from named him Gus (which I liked) we also tried Strelka (Soviet space dog) Sputnik (Satellite) Hiccup and a few others I can't remember offhand.
Realistically I'll just carry on calling him Spud cos thats just what I call pups.
