DIY stuff again

These bolts came with a microwave wall rack

The instructions are pretty much useless!!!

So - Will these work in a concrete wall?

I normally use screws and rawl plugs, but haven't used them for anything as heavy as a microwave!!

Yeah, they'll hold in a solid concrete or block wall.
Not so much in those hollow pot walls Ive seen in France and Spain before.

Ive used something very like them to fix safes to the floor and walls.

Perfect. The walls here are solid concrete - which I normally hate, but hopefully these bolts will do the job!!

You have a hammer action drill and some masonry bits?

If it's reinforced concrete walls then you might find yourself hitting rebar when you drill the holes. The masonry bits won't work on the rebar so you'll either have to drill through them with a HSS bit or move your hole over half an inch or so.

Don't ask me how I know this.

The first tool I bought when I moved here was an SDS drill and relevant bits!! Damn I was happy with that as my previous drill and bits just took of the couple of mm of the sort of 'plaster' that they use out here!! LOL


It's going to have to wait until Monday as I've run out of shoulder today and I'm not here tomorrow. Even if I get back early enough on Sunday, we aren't allowed to do DIY on Sundays!!

Will see if a friend can come and help on Monday!

The village mayor lives next door, so I assume he's alright with it. Either that or he's building a massive dossier of my transgressions.

Don't take the nuts off until the bolt assembly's fully in , gently tap them in with a hammer

I live in an apartment block. When Dad drove me over with the newly broken shoulder, he did a little bit of DIY (sawing and putting stuff together - no concrete drilling!) on a Sunday - On the monday there was a sign on the internal door saying, essentially, NOT DIY ON SUNDAYS!!!

I won't be here this weekend, so will get a friend to help on Monday or Tuesday
