I saw a bike...

Post by KungFooBob »

I parked up next to it outside J&S Doncaster today.

(I didn't take a picture, but I should have).

It had Harley Davidson on the tank. It looked cool. It looked really cool. It seemed almost Buell like in it's proportions.

It was too small and compact to be a standard model, but nothing about it looked to be custom made.

I'd not seen a Harley like it... so I thought.

I was so impressed I pretended to be fiddling with my phone, but I was checking the reg against the Gov MOT checker to get the model.

It was an XR1200X Sportster.

I've seen dozens of pictures of XR1200s, they're battle ship long and look like they weigh a millions tonnes. Yet in real life it was very compact and very cool!

I want one.

I've been looking on the tinternets....

1. Parked next to the BRB, everything looks small.
2. It had a single seat on it, which reduces the length of the standard bike by a foot.
3. I need a bigger budget for a XR1200.

You might want to ride a Harley before getting too excited, they're an acquired taste. You need to adjust your perspective about what a motorcycle offers, for example when cruising around can you see your reflection in the headlight shell?

Was it a Street 500/750? I don't think it is a current model

Cruising around is all they're good at. A point best demonstrated to my by the wife and I on the Pan Euro effortlessly pulling away from the lad solo on his 1200 Sportster up the hill to Corrs Corner.

Sound good blasting about the town though.

I know several riders on them who'd kick most anyones arse in the roads. It depends who's riding them.

That's the XR, but the one I saw was black.

It's odd, but in pictures they normally show it from the right hand (exhaust) side and it looks massive and long.

From the other side it looks a lot more compact. Or is that just me?

That's the rider, not the bike. Meet a rider of equal skill on something like an R6, the Harley would be toast.

Skill?

Or just riding on the edge?
