Lend me a tenner, eh ?

Post by Couchy »

So if anyone cares or remembers I kept my Africa twin for a good couple of years, lots of off road and several Trackdays it was a superb bike and great fun.
Since it went I’ve tried various bikes but wanted to get back to a bike that can do a bit of everything. The new AT is too much money and tbh as good as it was for off road a little bit lighter would be nice. Only two choices the KTM790 and Yam tenere 700, I want reliable and easy to look after and with the Yam on offer a deal was done.
Picked it up today and did 50 miles, some gravel lanes and mainly twisty back roads. Handles ace even on the tyres it came in which are quite good off too. I’ll swap them for a Trackday or two but leave them on for road and off road. Nothing to complain about it’s exactly what I expected just gotta use it lots now 👍

Nice, I like that- it's definitely the one I'd get over an AT , Bimmer or any of the KTMs if I was in the market for an adventure-y sort of bike

Has that hipster Ducati thing gone?

I wanted to like the scrambler, engine was lovely but that was about it. Too small, suspension too basic and zero wind protection. Not entirely sure who it’s aimed tbh

Love them, will you take this where you take the CRF rally? Are you keeping the rally as well?

It’ll go 80% of the places, there’s a couple of lanes that have lots of big rocks and drops and it’ll go down them but there’s a high risk of dropping it so I’ll stick to lanes I know are good for an expensive adventure bike 👍

Had a couple of hours tonight so fitted tail tidy, removed pillion pegs and reflectors 👍. Came to bits ok but plastics and bolts feel a step down in quality compared to recent Hondas I’ve had. But all goes together well and looks good. I guess when a new bike is cheaper than the opposition savings have to be made somewhere

Can't wait to hear how you get on with this one , I've been on the edge of getting one since they were released. But I tend to mull things over for about 5 years first 😀!I'm the polar opposite to you when it comes to buying and selling but our taste in bikes is remarkably similar.
Still trying to decide whether to keep my road bike and add a CRF L / or full on enduro, or get a tenere as a one bike does it all.

Done over 100 miles now, a few gentle lanes but it’s as a road bike I really like it. I’ll prob fit pure road tyres as it really does handle well. Suspension is very well damped and a lot stiffer than the crf250 or Africa twin 👍

Get a second set of hubs and have them laced to 17inch rims... fit some Rennsports (god I'm out of date) and go sportsbike hunting :)

Imo, I'd keep a designated road bike for track n trips and a little crf type for back/green lane fun. Tbh, I've been getting more use from my crf recently, great fun up to B roads. 80 mph, goes surprisingly well on the road with stock tyre's.

Don't think I could live with only the 700 ten, but very nice they are. 👍

If my lad nicks my Interceptor I might treat myself.
I suspect it'll be too tall for me and I'll be miffed.

This isn't a criticism because I like the look of it, but it reminds me of when we used to buy new race bikes and they come unpainted, they don't seem to have done any sort of colour scheme at all on that one.
If I get one I'd be very tempted to go for a fancy version...

They look superb and I’ve been thinking about a proper paint job, I didn’t get a colour choice as I bought last of the 2020 bikes at a discount. TBH apart from the special edition this colour is my favourite of the standard ones but it still needs a bit ‘more’
