Another year, another 5-2... starting, well, right now.
Due to a few layoffs in the last 12 months, along with the lockdown eating/drinking curse, i'm feeling the weight has crept on. So on Friday i decided it was time to hit the 5-2 fasting again.
If you don't know, basically it means 2 days a week you're restricted to 700cals max for the 24 hours. So i pick Monday and Weds.
So starting today, it's a 700cal day again for me and we'll see if we can get a bit of the excess back off. !
The fridge has now been stocked with 0% Becks blue and 'Low Tide' which both are about 1/3 of the calories of standard beers, but happily, not 1/3 as tasty. The Low Tide isn't a million miles off at all... So that'll also help with the evening BBQs. Sure i only have 2 beers usually, but 2 beers is 2 beers... This way, it'll be less calories. I don't drink for getting drunk, those days are way past me, i drink because i enjoy a nice cold beer.
So back on the Zwift bike again today, trying to stay off the racing and do a bit longer/social.
Lets see how we do !

Good luck. How much are you looking to lose and what's your target timeframe?

Nah. I must admit I like the structure of 5-2 and it's only because I've been snacking and drinking too much along with 3 separate surgical procedures which means I've done a lot lot less cycling than usual that I've started going in the wrong direction.
Now I've got my head in the right place I'll get things back in the right way back down.

700cals 2 days a week, that's tough, its on 14 Jaffa cakes.
I take it that works well for you???

I won't have any proper beers now until i reach my goal or 5 weeks time when we head to Silverstone. Calories i don't count as that's a world of crazy IMO, but i also won't eat as many snacks/bad things as previous months along with ramping up my exercise time spent in the cardio/burning zone and trying to stay out of the short sprint races. So 55-75 mins races are the plan for the next month, even if that means my results are crap as they're often on the hilly courses, not the flat courses.

Bit of today was tricky, just keeping the mindset right and not having anything other than water and coffee until 5:45pm. But I can have some food, fill my belly and that's the 2 days done.
Sadly we're off for beers on both Fri and Sat lol so I'll need to get the pedalling going.

20kg weight vest has just turned up so I can get a bit of a workout walking the dogs (especially if I do my direct route onto and then up the Downs). Hopefully it'll help build a bit of leg strength as well as burning calories but I've really got to stop eating rubbish and start cycling more as the old belly is returning.

Re: Another year, another 5-2... starting, well, right now.
I did the 5-2 about 3 years back and it was working very well, right up until I got a gall bladder full of 'marbles' and waited a year to have it removed.
There was some talk that the 5-2 could have precipitated the stones getting worse but I think it's about time I started up on it again. It did seem to be working very well with good weight loss and a regime that I could actually stick to.
My main trouble in restarting is I'm having to drive 650 miles from home to London and back about every 8-10 days currently and I struggle to not eat too much (or drink too many sweet coffees - something I never have at home) on the 10 hour (if no traffic) journeys.

Mine is being bored at home with lots of treats in the house, admittedly they're only in the house because we've bought them, but still, it's tricky not to eat them.Kneerly Down wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 5:23 pm

I'm generally pretty strict once I get going, well at least for 6-8 weeks. If I can drop 10lb I'll ease off a smidgen, but let's see how we get on first before worrying about that step.

It ain't easy if stuffs in the house, your lad will still want his snacks, coz he's a kid, trouble is, you know what cupboard they're in.
And my experience of 0% beer, you'll soon get pissed off with it.
Good luck.

It's not a life change it's to keep the calories down, but that doesn't mean i won't drink proper beer too.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 5:56 pm It ain't easy if stuffs in the house, your lad will still want his snacks, coz he's a kid, trouble is, you know what cupboard they're in.
