MAybe not quite fully ready to go based upon the review... but certainly a step in the right direction it seems.

Still prefer a belt, currently use a polar H10. All the optical stuff I and my brother have tried seems to suffer when riding for some reason.

Re: New HRM, the least obtrusive one ever !
I have just shifted from using the optical HRM on my Garmin forerunner to an external chest Ant+ one...
I have never had more inconsistent readings that when I am using the chest band. God knows why - because the watch connects it, it give a heart rate reading (low) - and then the Garmin converted it to a calories used reading of 1/4 of what it normally is!

I had a Suunto heart rate belt that was very susceptible to ahem, chest hair issues..... it gave low readings till I either shaved a couple of spots for the contact areas or used copious amounts of contact gel.

Yeah considered those, look nice. The Whoop is going OK. Had a weekend of garden work and tracked my fatigue well.
It's great if you have a lot of stress away from the bike.

I am beginning to think it is too much faff and I will accept the occasional crap reading from the optical set up

Yeah it tracks
Active HR
Resting HR (sleep stuff at night)
Heart Rate Variability (the main things)
Respiratory Rate
Then tells you how tired you are etc each morning. Has a monthly fee though

Sometimes! I've found the data handy though. People have found it can help highlight Covid before symptoms which is a plus point too.

I tend to worry about my health a lot too. So this chills me out - had chest pains a few weeks ago and the data stopped me going AWOL

Re: New HRM, the least obtrusive one ever !
That's odd. I've always used Ant+ chest straps, for years I just went with the cheap and cheerful Decathlon ones (brilliant!) and then this Xmas I was bought the new Garmin HR Pro one*. I've always found them super consistent (unlike the readings from both by Forerunner and Vivosport 3) and very reliable. I use them surfing and windsurfing as well and, again, have no issues whatsoever. Wash the bands occasionally, always make sure the contacts are wet before sticking it around my chest and the job's a good 'un.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 10:39 am I have just shifted from using the optical HRM on my Garmin forerunner to an external chest Ant+ one...

*The one that is supposed to record and you can then download from. I haven't tried it yet as I've always worn my watch running/windsurfing/surfing or had it connected to my Edge when cycling.

I used to use a Garmin chestrap with my Forerunners, but haven't bothered since I've had a Vivoactive watch, which is 2 years or more now- the HR monitor in the Vivoactive seems very consistent , especially compared to that in my last Forerunner, (which was pretty unreliable) and although haven't done any comparative tests recently, I did when I first got it and readings were pretty much bang on what the chest strap was reportinglostboy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 2:22 pmThat's odd. Re: New HRM, the least obtrusive one ever !
I just wear my apple watch, apparently they give such accurate results, in the USA medical organisations will use the watch ECG results?
At the end of the day, if it’s close enough and I use the same watch all the time, then at least the results should be consistent?
Have no idea if that’s good or not??

with the various foibles of the fore runner , and that fact that my Garmin Edge 500 will no longer sync with anything, I was plucking at a "better" activity watch.Nordboy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 5:35 pm I just wear my apple watch, apparently they give such accurate results, in the USA medical organisations will use the watch ECG results?

The Apple Watch does seem to come out as one of the best. But they look like a 5 GBP digital watch from an Esso garage ... are they really that nasty in real life?

Re: New HRM, the least obtrusive one ever !
I'd almost given up with Garmin 2 or 3 years back after my FR235, which was flaky to say the least in finding GPS sometimes and the HR sensor was inconsistent , but someone bought me a VivoActive.
I was a bit " oh, great...." initially as I assumed it was just a forerunner in a different case, but have to say, it really has been great for me and what I use it for (mainly running but also when out on the Enduro or MTB) - haven't had any of the issues I had with forerunners, and battery life is so much better than all my previous GPS watches- I can do a full day on the off-road bike, which is 6-8 hrs usually

The Vivoactive 3 is an excellent piece of kit. As I said above I use it all the time, often in conjunction with the HR strap, and it's been faultless.Tricky wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:21 am I'd almost given up with Garmin 2 or 3 years back after my FR235, which was flaky to say the least in finding GPS sometimes and the HR sensor was inconsistent , but someone bought me a VivoActive.

Re: New HRM, the least obtrusive one ever !
If i’m honest, I didn’t think it would last me that long, but i’ve had mine a while now and can give watches a hard time. I do have a plastic protective case on mine (tough armor) and itks easily survived everything i’ve thrown at it so far. Can’t really criticise the build quality at all.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:00 amwith the various foibles of the fore runner , and that fact that my Garmin Edge 500 will no longer sync with anything, I was plucking at a "better" activity watch.Nordboy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 5:35 pm I just wear my apple watch, apparently they give such accurate results, in the USA medical organisations will use the watch ECG results?
