Yay, new bike time

Post by cheb »

A 2005 Honda XR125L with 12,000 on the clock. IIRC it's been stolen and recovered at some point but I know the owner and the man who maintains it. It all works, starts, stops, goes through the gears and all the electrics work. 2 or 3 months MOT left. The battery needs replaced, annoying as it's electric start only, no kick. I might add a kick-start later. Tolerable cosmetically, the stanchions have very minor pitting and it's had odd bits painted/sprayed, often without masking. The seat isn't split. Dog slow and powerless, and the footpegs are much lower than I'm used to.

£1,200 on the island. It may or may not be a bargain but it was convenient and I know its history. It's been bought so spawn junior can learn about IC engines and motorcycles.

Looks like it'd be good for wandering along a few gentle green lanes too!

Might try that excuse one day..

Nice, that'd come in handy round here. Reminds me of the XL my landlady had when I was young and dumb. I used to take it out for spins where you really shouldn't. Out into the bay at low tide for example. Or cross country , coming back from parties at dawn trying to avoid roads (shudder)

So far: The exhaust header nuts weren't seized and now have more copper grease on them.

It's in much better condition than the 11 year old CB125S I had as my first bike some centuries ago.

I might just tax and insure for my own use to get it warmed through and loosened.

It would be irresponsible to let someone else ride it before it was properly tested.

I bet there's a whole lot of fun to be had on that.

The vehicle taxing site appears to be down.

First bodge found, the battery clamp is missing and has been replaced by a couple of cable ties.

I've worked out why the battery clamp has gone, it hasn't got the correct sized battery fitted. No big deal, and unsurprising considering where I live.

It works, it'll do.

That was my impression when I rode my mate's shop one. However since I have considered one as a knock about bike for winter. There are loads of little nadery roads near me that are gravel/muddy even in spring so would be good fun in winter.

I was expecting nothing more. New battery ordered, and a s/h clamp too. c£60.

On the islands? Seriously?

I thought island inhabitants shared a car for runs to the ferry and the shops. Just leave the keys in it and enough fuel for the next person to use it. Tax and insurance? Never heard the likes. ;)

I though it might be cheaper than expected, it's one of the reasons I didn't haggle nor look too closely before I bought it.

It's very much at the road end of trail bikes, even my old XL185 is more off road biased than this.
