Clothing/Kit quirks, systems, processes, OCD

Post by weeksy »

DO you have to get kitted up in a certain order ? If you forget that order, would you remove an item and go back a step ?

Does it matter if the left glove goes on first or the right ? Or the ear plug goes in on the left side first....

Or do you wait until sitting on the bike before the helmet goes on ?

etc.

Right glove first in poor weather.

No OCD superstition or habit, just more dextrous than the left for getting it tucked under the jacket cuff to keep rain out.

Keys always in rght side jacket pocket, so I knew where they were.

Yeah I always put my right glove on first too for the same reason. Nothing superstitious, I'm just right handed so find it easier to do my left up with a gloved right hand rather than vice versa.

Beyond that nothing....I think I've probably forgotten to put my helmet on before :D

Not really. I do tend to always start the bike and leave it warming up before closing the garage door and then ear plugs, lid, gloves. Usually right first for the same reason as Horse, but not always. Keys also in the right side pocket too, wallet in left, phone inside pocket.

I tend to find pants before trousers is best too.

Not OCD on getting the kit on, but do have a preference of getting things on, maybe more to do with "efficiency". I like to have my stuff in the right place so I don't go hunting for it! Keys in upper chest pocket (keyless ride), phone inner jacket, start bike, then jacket on, air jacket, earphones and helmet and last thing to go on are the gloves. At that point, I usually remember something I've forgotten in the garage, and then have to take the gloves off, get keys, open garage to get forgotten item :)

I make sure the bike will start before I start getting kitted up. Other than that, nothing.

I always put left glove before right. This started from being a smoker and having one last drag before finally suiting up to go after a quick fuel stop on a ride out. Easily been been 25 years since I last rode with that group but habit persists because I still smoke but don't tend to furiously puff away after a 5 minutes stop.

Trail the bike out of the garage and start it up.

Turn on heated grips in the cooler weather.

Go inside and get kitted up.

Kaks on first.

Left boot before right.

Neck tube.

If it's cold,heated bodywarmer goes on,then jacket.

Helmet out of bag and decide on clear or dark visor.

Earplugs in and helmet on.

Money/cards in left pocket, phone and earplugs container in right.

Left glove on first and we're off.

Fascinating stuff eh?

I always put on right glove before the left glove. I thought it was a superstition till Horse mentioned that being right handed made it easier to put the left one on second ..... he was absolutely right of course ;)

Doh :D

I'm right handed and do the left first. I also favour my left hand for some intricate jobs. Long years of protecting nails (guitar) on my right hand has led me to use my left more than other r/h folk might. Mark Knopfler is left handed, but plays the guitar right handed, because his left does the fretwork and it made sense to him!

Out of interest, when you lot answer the phone which ear do you use to listen and which is your dominant hand?

Typical thick bog hopper cant even get his gloves on the right way round

As for the phone i always use the right ear, same with shooting as right eye is dominant for using a scope

Say,for instance your right hand was busy (ha) and you had to answer the phone, would you use your left hand and cross over to your right lug,or just clamp it to your left ear?

I'm left handed.

I put my left glove on first.

Answer the phone with my left hand to my left ear.

knock one out with my left hand.

wipe my arse with my right hand.

write with my left hand.

Eat right handed.

Is this all going in a spreadsheet somewhere, being reported to the ONS?

Bike keys in RH pocket, lock keys in LH pocket. Ear plugs in before doing anything with the bike, to avoid contamination. I thought that was about it, but it could just be that the right glove goes on before the left.....

I try to remember to put everything on, and the right glove/boot on the right hand/foot, but other than that almost anything goes.

I can often be found searching 84 pockets for the key I need to start the bike

Underwear, outerwear, boots, helmet. Phone in inside jacket pocket. Lock garage, keys in right pocket. I put whichever glove I pick up first on - which I didn't know was strange until now. I've only ever ridden off without my helmet twice. The first time my thought process was "Oh, bloody hell its windy. Fucking BBC with their shit forecast, they never said it would be windy, bastards....oh, it's windy because....". The second time "Why is the papergirl staring at me? WTF is she staring at? Has she never seen a bike before? Oh, it's me she is staring at. My face. She can see my face".
