TV - connection to internet via Deco or directly into Virgin Hub

Post by Mr Moofo »

I have a smart TV which works better when hard wired in (or seems to)
At the moment it is going via a network cable hub into a Deco Mesh Pod.
The Deco broadcasts a mesh WiFi around the house.
The TV is also connected to the WiFi ....
I could connect the TV directly into the Virgin Hub, which is about 0.5 metre away.

Would that cause any issues / conflicts ( The Virgin Hub is used as the router to the Deco)
Thanks

My TV and / or the various mediaPlayer boxes are hardwired directly to my Orange router - doesn't seem to impact anything else on the network

As long as the Virgin router deans with your DHCP and DNS it'll be fine.

I have my Deco setup to manage these services and my router as just the gateway. My first AP is in the sideboard with the router and I've got a switch connected to it's second NIC for the Sky box, PlayStation and NAS that are in there.

Really pleased with the Deco mesh setup and app, I've now got full WiFi around the house.

TBH , I have no idea what you are talking about in the first bit! How would I know if my Virgin Hun deals with the DNCP and DNS...
Or is there absolutely no advantage to doing this and just go via the network hub and the Deco?

Plug it in, see if it works. Chances are you've not changed anything by the sounds of it.

Oddly, the tv works on WiFi - but says no signal from the Ethernet connection ( which is now plugged into the Virgin box) so I assume there is a conflict?

Is anything else plugged into the Virgin router? Can you plug a laptop in and see if you get on the internet ok?

If the set up is anything like my VELOP mesh system, the original wall-mounted router is in bridge mode and the first node (or access point) becomes the router so anything plugged directly into the original router will not work. I have a 5 socket switch connected to the first node to allow for additional wired connections

That will may well be the case - though the network router ports do start flashing if you connect a lead. But that could mean nothing

Well - turns out LG TVs are a bit rubbish at connections. Two TVs would connect to WiFi in a stable manner - neither would they hook up via a network cable.
TV return ( Richer Sound shave been brilliant). Now have Sony A8 - horrid remote , clunky interface - but connects to WiFi and AV amp with none of the LG issues
