If that's correct, then I like it.Pirahna wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 10:18 amIt's from an old branch line that was dismantled in the 1920's.MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 10:07 am A railway fishplate, about 6 miles from the nearest railway in my local forest, why?
A century old. Proper history, right there. I must be right nerdy as that's proper interesting.

Am I seeing a joke that wasn't intended, or are you being slow?gremlin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 11:04 amIf that's correct, then I like it.Pirahna wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 10:18 amIt's from an old branch line that was dismantled in the 1920's.MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 10:07 am A railway fishplate, about 6 miles from the nearest railway in my local forest, why?

No joke, just expressing my enthusiasm for everyday history. If being interested in history makes me slow, I'll happily wear the dunce hat.*

Indeed. Very much a slow stopper train rather than express.
Or, perhaps, a wooden sleeper?
Even bland can be a type of character

Re: utterly random picture thread.
There's a company called Cassini that print the old OS maps but have re-scaled them to match the modern maps. I've got a couple of sets of my local area. The maps are from 1805, 1898 and 1919-1920. There's quite a bit of railway that had come and gone, it goes though what are now woods, fields, roads. There's lots of stuff out there (not just railways) if you want to go exploring.

I took this on Wednesday on a cold misty morning. A broken grave stone laden with moss, daffodils showing their colour and the gloom holding all in stillness.
Proverbs 17:9
One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.
