Where are you most looking forward to cycling when the UK opens up ?
I can't wait for spring and a little normality to come back to us. The long days out in the hills are calling me massively.
The first 'biggy' i want is to get back to BPW and get down some trails there.
But the ride on the Ridgeway from Chippenham back home for beers is calling my name too. I'm even hoping to persuade Crust into a home>Avebury and back type ride. Nice summers day, stopping in a couple of pub beer gardens for a pint on the way there and back etc.
I also wouldn't mind a few more days at 417 Flyup, get back into the groove, it's been a bit of a disasterous winter for maintinaing skills progress, i felt i was doing ok at times this year, but think with injuries and places being closed, that's going to take a bit of finding again.

I'm just looking forward to nicer weather so I can get out locally, I get splitting head aches cycling when it's really cold.
My mate is desperate to take his £6K Cube EMTB to Wales and is pestering me to go with him, I don't think he realises that I'm not as fit as he is - he goes running because he enjoys it, bloody loon.

I would uplift ... i can do riding uphills - but no point when something else is on offer!
which reminds me - in the what I want to do section is some skills training
Still want to loft the front wheel and be able to jump without thinking am about to die.

Not sure when the uplift will feel 'right' under the CV19 rules.. I think we'll be pedalling up before we're doing the uplift for sure.Mr Moofo wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:29 amI would uplift ... i can do riding uphills - but no point when something else is on offer!

The training side of things i'm not sure i can help much there. I've only done Jedi, which was great, but 'samey' and i'm not fully convinced prepares you for the trails.. Think of it as lapping mallory with an instructor and learning mallory compltely in depth, but then being asked to go set a fast TT circuit time, it's different as you have the skills, but can't necessarily translate them into the 'real-world'. That's how i found it anyway. I like Jedi, i think his passion and teachings are ace... but i'm not sure it's the best for me in terms of progression. I found the Swinley skills area a far better prospect in some ways, but maybe that's because Jedi had given me the first steps.
BPW do coaching, which is of course at BPW and i think would give a level of learning far more in line with what's needed for the actual trails you're riding.

there are couple of guys offering training days on the South Downs - had a brief conversation with one. They are assuming you are a 24 yr old racing snake ...
I'm not - I get get down most things on the South Downs. I just want to keep death at day and time in A&E to a minimum.
And look cool, obviously

Going to ride more Todmorden/Hebden stuff this year I think, it's only an hour away so no excuse really, more of a fan of the winch and plummet type of riding than long rolling days, going to save the big days out in the Dales for when it's sunny.
Would be nice to be able to manual more easily and jump without being terrified too, it's weird - i'm fine on drops but launching myself upwards it just seems to go to rats whether on a hardtail or full sus! Might have to go down the pump track and practice but worried the kids will laugh at the fat middle-aged muppet

You'll be amazed just how supportive they are, they're really passionate about it and love seeing the older ones even having a try.Ditchfinder wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:40 am Might have to go down the pump track and practice but worried the kids will laugh at the fat middle-aged muppet![]()

Hmmm it would be being quite optimistic of me to expect the youth of Nelson (East Lancs) to be encouraging and supporting, only one way to find out I guess - I shall report back after my first tripweeksy wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:42 amYou'll be amazed just how supportive they are, they're really passionate about it and love seeing the older ones even having a try.Ditchfinder wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:40 am Might have to go down the pump track and practice but worried the kids will laugh at the fat middle-aged muppet![]()

Dartmoor. Specifically the forested eastern side around Lustleigh and "The Nutcracker" descent.
We usually ride the western side which is more exposed

I've already invited myself for a day out with my mate who lives in the Brecon Beacons, maybe even venturing toward Afan.
other than that, even riding in the FOD will be something that I haven't done for a long while. However I have been doing a hell of a lot of walking in the FOD and have found many many new trails that need exploring

Does this thread include road riding?
I have a hankering to do the Applecross pass. Looks a bit massive but I like a challenge.
It would mean driving all the way up there in my van and camping. A long weekend should do it.

Should be done by lunchtime....

As soon as I can, I'll be heading to Cwmcarn, even if it's just a day trip.
Otherwise, looking forward to visiting BPW, FoD, Swinley and Peaslake. FoD has a decent skills area that I'd like to try. Like Weeksy, I've done a day with Jedi which was a massive help but it's translating it to the trail.
Like I mentioned in LFG's thread in Motorbike Chat, doing the above with friends.

Done the Bealach na Ba a few times on a motorbike, stunning views and worth the long drive up.bevvo wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:03 pm Does this thread include road riding?
