Re: Will This Affect Euro Trackdays?
The thought over on PBmag is that the transport company can lump it all on one carnet. Not sure I agree with that though.
But yes if it's one for every bike, that cost needs to be factored in for sure.

You were supposed to have one in the 1980s to go to Belgium, I didn't know this in 1985 and just rocked up to the ferry and went across, nobody checked at Felixstowe or Zeebrugge, then again I didn't have a passport either, you could travel on an identity card that you got at Felixstowe about 10 minutes before you got on the ferry.

Sounds like it'll cost an extra £400-odd per bike plus a returnable deposit of 40% of the bike's value to take it to a European trackday. Maybe some insurance will be offered to cover it but that would cost also.

Do you feel that covers it well ?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:13 pm Why not look at the governments website

So if a lorry is taking 50 bikes, who covers the cost and how much is it based upon that website ?
Re: Will This Affect Euro Trackdays?
The overall value of the contents is covered via insurance and its 40% of the overall value....approx. costs between 30 - 60 of course will depend on overall value etc however not anywhere near the £ mentioned in the ACU documentation.. watch the FE clip and it will make a lot of sense from sum1 that's knows rather than us KB warriors !!weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:16 pmDo you feel that covers it well ?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:13 pm Why not look at the governments website

It doesn't really matter whether it's you or the TD organiser who pays for the carnet, because the TDO will pass the cost on to you whatever happens, I've no idea what it will cost, but first you need to establish that you need a Carnet de Passage, probably best to find out from the EU or Portugal what they want, UK customs don't care if you take a vehicle abroad, they will be interested when you come back and will want proof you're not importing a vehicle.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:16 pmDo you feel that covers it well ?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:13 pm Why not look at the governments website

Re: Will This Affect Euro Trackdays?
That's why TDO gets insurance making you sure you return to the UK with the goods you left with ! ie listed on the documents….its 40% of the overall value of the trailer to insure....weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:43 pmSo no then.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:40 pmIt doesn't really matter whether it's you or the TD organiser who pays for the carnet, because the TDO will pass the cost on to you whatever happens, I've no idea what it will cost, but first you need to establish that you need a Carnet de Passage, probably best to find out from the EU or Portugal what they want, UK customs don't care if you take a vehicle abroad, they will be interested when you come back and will want proof you're not importing a vehicle.

Re: Will This Affect Euro Trackdays?
I think you have to put 40% of the value of the goods you're taking abroad in bond somewhere, you get the money back when you return to the country of origin, but you have to have that 40% available to be able to put it in bond. That's how it worked 23 years ago when I went to Morocco, wasn't a big deal for an XR600 that was worth about £1k.

What about bikes without v5?
What if it's a haulage company and the don't own any? We'd all have to give our v5 to them?

Re: Will This Affect Euro Trackdays?
Bikes without V5 will probably need a carnet or pay import duties.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 4:21 pmI don't see how it helps?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 4:18 pm Does this help

Bikes with a V5, the V5 would have to go with the bike, but what's the big deal, a V5 isn't proof of ownership, and if they wanted to steal your bike they could whether they've got the V5 or not, you've already given them the bike.
